Surnames: Craig, Gordon, Graham, Morton, McMullan, King Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4IQ.2ACEB/2338.7 Message Board Post: We are seeking to locate our "Craig" ancestors who came from County Antrim, Ireland. This is what I know. Nancy "Agnes" Craig b.1801 married Thomas Gordon around 1821, they lived, among his family, on the Townland of Drummuck/Drumleckney, which is near the Village of Broughshane, County Antrim. Nancy and Thomas, their first four children...two of which were named after Thomas' parents John and Grace Gordon and with that we believe they followed the Irish naming pattern. So, the other two children of the first four born were named James and Rose. Being we don't know where Nancy Craig was born other than Ireland and suspect, she was born in that vicinity..and/or her parents name...we only can suspect her father perhaps was a James Craig and his wife perhaps named Rose. So we are using this theory to research against until or unless something reveals itself to send us in another direction. Any chance you may have any information relative "Craig" families in and around the Village of Broughshane? Nancy "Agnes" Craig Gordon, after the death of her husband Thomas Gordon on Good Friday April 1851, subsequently removed from that area with her children to Elgin County, Ontario Canada, around 1853... where she died in 1877 and is buried. Other surnames of that area we are researching: Graham, Morton, McMullan, King! Best to you, Michelle Michigan/USA [email protected]

Ireland area. This is what I can tell you thus far... Nancy "Agnes" Craig was born in 1801 and married Thomas Gordon, of Drummack/Drumleckney (near the Village of Broughshane) in County Antrim N. Ireland. Her parents names nor siblings have yet been detemined. Nancy, however, did cite within her bible the exact dates of births of all of her and Thomas' children. 2 children of the first four children fit with what we know of Thomas Gordons parents; John and Grace Gordon. The other 2 of the first four children were Rose and James. Therefore, based on the Irish naming pattern we are looking, we believe, for a James Craig and wife Rose. This may not be correct, in the end, but its all we have to date to go on. Nancy "Agnes" Craig Gordon, after the death of her husband on Good Friday April of 1851 she subsequently removed with her children for Elgin County, Ontario Canada by 1854 where she died in the l870's and it is in Canada where she is buried. Any thoughts, or directions, or perhaps, if lucky, a hit on who my Nancy's parents were would be most welcomed! Michelle A. Burke Michigan / USA [email protected]

    1. RE: [CRAIG-L] CRAIG Team Leaders please respond!
    2. Jean Creswick
    3. Sorry. I'm leader of Team 14 and we descend from John Craig and his wife Ann or Anna who we believe are the parents of James Craig who died 1 Feb 1781 during the Revolution. He was married to Rhoda Niblick and owned land in Long Cane (no "s"), Abbeville District, SC. Rhoda and her children stayed on in the area for many years. We now believe, due to the extensive research of Ed Mason, who I have been unable to contact lately, that James' sisters married local men. I also want to put in a plug for Richard K. McMurtry of MacMurtrie Clan Family Records who has created a beautiful Colonial map of the Abbeville area and laid it over a current map of the area, showing James and Rhoda's land and that of their siblings. He can be reached at [email protected] if you would like to purchase a copy. I hope he gets encouraged and finishes the other part of Abbeville so I can attempt to find who Jane Cochran's father really was (husband of Agness Cochran). I have been tracking these families - Hutton, Pettigrew and Calhoun - and find much information. I am hoping that by going backwards in their lines I may find where our Craig's (and Niblick/Niblock/Niblack's) came to America and how they traveled to South Carolina. Over the years, many Craig cousins have contacted me and I have updated the line considerably....but have been unable to add to the website. My direct ancestor is their son Samuel who married Jane Cochran of Cedar Springs church in Abbeville. They moved to Alabama and on to Seven-Mile Prairie, White County, Illinois as Presbyterian "Cumberlanders" and on to McLean County, IL. Here is the beginning of the line as I see it right now. 2. Craig, I'm continuing to take information as it comes in regarding CRAIG Team #18 and answer queries as they are directed to me. It is, indeed, frustrating to not be able to contact anybody that can update the website. I'd like to actually remove the information regarding our Team from the site and just have a link to my own pages where I can easily make corrections and updates as I receive them. As it currently stands, there is incorrect information out there that really, really needs to be updated. I've made attempts both directly and through the list to contact someone, anyone, to facilitate either updating or eliminating our Team page and have been entirely unsuccessful. I'm perfectly willing to provide a sample, but I don't think I can justify the expense at the moment. Cash is a bit tight right now, as I'm more concerned with getting a certain procedure performed to stop any more Craigs from sprouting up. ;-) (The most recent is John David CRAIG (15 Nov 2002, Texarkana, Bowie, TX (9 months and 1 day after I married his mother!)) 3. Glad to see interest pick up on this list. I have Mary Ann Craig and Sarah M. Craig (Hays) in Gibson Co. Tennesse in 1824. I would like to connect with some Craig team. Believe that they were daughters of William W. Craig and Esther Montgomery who were married in Blount Co. Tennessee in 1802. Most researchers of this family list only children born beginning in 1812 and I can find no proof that Sarah and Mary Ann were children of William and Esther. Sarah was born in 1808 and Mary Ann born around 1803. One daughter of Sarah's was named Esther and her first son was named William. When he used initials only, it was W.W. C. Hays. There are strong indications that these two women were daughters of William and Esther but I still seek proof. One secondary source lists Sarah's parents as William Craig and Nancy Montgomery. If you have information about Sarah or Mary Ann, I would appreciate hearing from you. Mollie in Missouri

    2. Hello Cousins...... Amanda and I are sorry there has been no work done on the Craig Homepage for a couple of years. It has been hard for about 3 years. I was the primary caregiver for both my Mother and Father, here at home with me. Both of them have now passed on. John was the team leader for # 1, the Terrible T's, but with John's sudden death, we will need a new Team leader. May I make a suggestion? In order to start bringing the Homepage back up to snuff.....could each team seek one another out via this list and then after you have all met up, begin communicating with one another privately....off list? I suggest you all compile your information together ....get it ready.... one of your talented team members set it up in correct form .....and then, as a short cut measure for the time being, Amanda could put the address or.link to that information on the Craig Homepage. All one would have to do after that is just go to the homepage and click on that addy for your team. Amanda owns that website and she can link the Homepage to your team work. Everyone think about this.....talk about it and see what you think. Yes.....Amanda and I would like to see the homepage fired up again....:-)) ...........Judy CRAIG Genealogy Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/9791/ ******************************************** [email protected] ********************************************

    3. "Hello again Cousins!" To be of value for identifying those CRAIG families descending through mutual CRAIG ancestry, test participants necessarily must be males who descend in unbroken line bearing the surname CRAIG, CRAG, CRAIGE, or some other variant of same. Anyone not having this surname at birth would necessarily have to identify a male cousin, uncle, or some other male blood relative bearing the surname CRAIG in order to potentially benefit from the information gained through Y Chromosome DNA tests. As my mother was born a CRAIG, I would necessarily have to make contact with an uncle or cousin and persuade them to participate in these DNA tests. Will gladly pay for the cost of doing this for my own CRAIG family, as I hope that each of us interested in doing this might be able and willing to do for each of their respective CRAIG families. I've returned to the list, some four years after a hard drive crashed wiped out my data, and the death of my father dampened my taste for research. I can't begin to say how much I admire and appreciate the VERY hard work you and the other "serious" Craig researchers have put into this effort over the years. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart! Now that I'm back, is there a place I can download a gedcom of the Team 8 data? I feel like a freeloader for even asking, but the truth is that I probably wouldn't put the effort into going back past my ggf (William Robert CRAIG). Thanks again so VERY much again for your work, and the work of all the others here. Kevin Craig Nash, TX -- Craig Team 8

    3. "Hello again Cousins!" Use your browser to access the CRAIG Genealogy Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/9791/ then use your mouse to click on: Lineal Descent Research: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/9791/pedigrees.htm What you will find there is what the then current Team Leaders had posted for our respective CRAIG families back in 1999 or so. At that time I had some 1,239 descendants for CRAIG Team #8 through the first six-generations, but on learning of other siblings for "Our CRAIG Family" and subsequent research for the descendants of "Our CRAIG Family" could now post some 8,233 descendants for "Our CRAIG Family", still in those same first xix- generations.
