I came across this auction today and thought maybe someone might be interested in this. I am in no way connected with the sale. I am just passing along this information. Old family Bible dated 1892, in poor physical condition with a taped-on back cover and a stitched-on front cover, and some loose and probably a few missing pages. Bible is illustrated with several large black and white illustrations. The Marriages, Births, and Deaths pages are full of names and dates, with dates ranging from 1845 to 1973 and the most common surnames of Craig and Sellers. http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=776418

I would like to get my name off the emails concerning Craigs. How do I go about this? My email is [email protected]
Morison Barclay CRAIG was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire to Hugh Morton CRAIG and Maggie KERR BARCLAY his wife. He married Elizabeth (nee ALLAN previously CALLAGHAN) - known as Bessie - in 1921 in Glasgow and they moved to Alloa where they had 3 daughters. Morison, a mining engineer, came out to Quebec, Canada to his brother and in October 1931was joined by his wife and daughters - Bessie CRAIG aged 32, Margaret Taylor CRAIG aged nearly 10, Lilias Kerr CRAIG aged 6, and Elizabeth CRAIG aged 5yrs. who sailed over from Alloa on SS Letitia. Their destination was Staff House, Noranda, Quebec, where they were said to join Morison. Can anyone tell me what Staff House, Noranda would have been? Would this fit in with Morison being a mining engineer? It is said that Morison then deserted his family so what became of them - or him? Ive never found his death and he never came back to Scotland to claim an inheritance either. If anyone can shed light on this family I would be absolutely delighted to hear from them and would gladly do English research in return for information! Many thanks, Ann (in Lancs, UK)
Matthew Kerr CRAIG b. 1892 Kilmarnock, Ayrshire married Marjorie Phyllis WOODLEY (daughter of Samuel WOODLEY of Quebec) in January 1918 at Bexhill, England whilst he was a serving officer (Lieutenant) in 42nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry, and she a hospital nurse at 15 Canadian Hospital, Taplow, Bucks. They had children born Oct 1918 (a daughter) and Oct 1922 (a son Matthew Taylor CRAIG born at Bergerville, Canada.) Then a son Dr Hugh Morton CRAIG who died 1977. I believe they also adopted one of Matthews nieces, daughter of Morison Barclay Craig and his wife Elizabeth Allen who had 3 daughters. At Marjories death in 1982 the granddaughter Susan CRAIG was present. Does anyone have knowledge of this family or suggest ways in which I might trace them further please? Many thanks, Ann (in Lancs, UK)

My ancestor is Joseph Craig who first appears in the 1880 Marshall County, Alabama census living with an Alford family. Joseph was orphaned during the Civil War and I don't know if this Alford family took him in, or since he was 25 years old, if he was a farmhand. Joseph married Sarah Ann Rebecca Attaway in Marshall County and they left for Texas before 1890. He was born in Georgia about 1855, but that is the only info I have on him. A question: What does the term "flannel-mouthed Scot" mean? According to family stories, Joseph used to refer to himself in that way. Thanks for any help. Ladonna Viertel
