    1. [CRAIG-L] Nathan Edward CRAIG and wife May Allen nee unk of Spencer, Worcester Co, MA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: CRAIG, DENNISON, HART Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4IQ.2ACEB/2403 Message Board Post: In the process of cleaning out my parents house I have come across the two documents which are not connected to my family. The first document is a diploma from Worcester County Free Institute of Industrial Science. It is for the graduation of Nathan Edward CRAIG for Civil Engineering and dated June 28th, 1883. The second document is for the acceptance of Mrs. May Allen CRAIG into the membership of the DAR, Col Henshaw Chapter. It is dated October 22, 1925. Her decendancy is given as being from Revolutionary War soldier Levi HART. A brief search of the US census reveals the following about Nathan Edward CRAIG: 1880 He is the son of George A. CRAIG 43y and Ellen nee unk 42y. He has two sisters Emma A 20y and Alice E 17y. Nathan is 16y They live in Spencer, MA. 1920: He is single, 55y and a Civil Engineer. His widowed mother Ellen A. 81y and Alice E. CASEY 48 single share his household. This Alice doesn't appear to be his sister. She is listed as single, hired girl and her parents are from Ireland. They live on Lincoln St. in Spencer, MA. 1930: He has married somewhere between the census taken Jan 1920 and Oct 1925 the date on his wife's DAR membership. Nathan is now 65y. His household consists of wife May A. 53y, stepson Richard DENNISON 23y, single and servant Guillermina Cantillo 21y, single. They live on Lincoln St. in Spencer, MA. The only connection to my family I can see is the Lincoln St. address. My father's sister lived on Lincoln St. in Spencer, MA also and these papers were in with a bundle of papers from her house. These people on the documents are, however, not related to my family. If these are your family, please contact me at [email protected] I would like to send these papers to you. I will keep them for a few months. If my post goes unanswered, I will have to dispose of them since I have tons of paper concerning my own family genealogy and scant space to use storing unrelated material.

Thanks Neal ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 27, 2004 8:22 AM Subject: [CRAIG-L] CRAIG, PERSON, MAXWELL connections Neal, Saw your postiings. Where are your Craigs from? I have Craigs too. My Craigs were from PA and DE. I believe they, in some cases, lived on the boundaries of counties connecting to both states, as well as counties that were changed due to boundary changes over the years that made them born in one state and livng in another at a later date. The Craigs are related to the Pierson's and Mawell Families. In fact I believe the Pierson's married into the Craigs and the Craigs married into the Maxwell families. I also believe that for the Piersons that their property, a farm in particular, was built on the line between MD and PA, and when some of them were born, while living in MD they were actually born in PA because of the location of the actual birth. This was a bit confusing until I met a relative on line who knew the history of their residences. My Pierson connection to the CRAIG Family is Ann PIERSON, She married Jacob CRAIG some time before 1810, They had at least one child, Rachel CRAIG. Rachel CRAIG married William MAXWELLon April 23, 1829. William & Rachel had had 8 sons including Jacob C. MAXWELL b 1831. Their other sons were: Joseph, William,. George S., Franklin C. , Richard, Alexander D. and Marshall P. Jacob married twice 1. Elizabeth Ann Warrick and had 2 children Rachel MAXWELL and Amos MAXWELL. Jacob was widowed a little over a year after Amos was born. He married 2. Mary Olivia Millard and had 2 daughters, Elizabeth and Susan. Amos C. MAXWELL married Annie E. DAVIS Annie & Amos had 8 children (possibly 9, if so I havent found #9.I have copies of the birth records of most of these children The birth records of the children are not numbered correctly. 2 children a couple of years apart are the same number child in birth order and there is a missing number or two between all of them. Some day that might be cleared up. Just a little something to keep the mystery going.) Their 3rd child (2nd daughter) Hattie is my gr grandmother. Hattie MAXWELL married William Bellew COX and was widowed while their only daughter Esther G. COX was a young child. She married Joseph A. McMULLEN, ( who by the way is also a direct descendant of the PIERSON family, through Ann PIERSON.) They were 4th cousins, dont know if they knew it, or it could be how they met. Both were widowed early and had children. Esther G. COX married John Washington BRITTINGHAM, they had 3 children in the late 1920's -1930's all are deceased. One was my mother. So this little circle of life connects the PIERSON, CRAIG, MAXWELL,DAVIS, BRITTINGHAM, COX, MCMULLEN, (BELLEW is the maiden name of William Bellew Cox's mother). This family appears to have been from many areas of the 3 bordering states of Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland. From Chester County & Lancaster Co, PA to Cecil County and Wicomico County MD, and New Castle to Sussex Counties, Delaware. Some even as neighbors living across the street from each other yet in different states. One more thing. Jacob Craig was the son of Jacob Craig and Mary West m. abt 1768 (sorry I forgot I had this added this to my genealogy program. In additon to Jacob there were 6 more children: Nancy, Sarah, Mary, Jane, Rachel & William. Since there are Nancy and William, repeats of the names you have, there could be some cousin connection too. I dont know if this will help you with your lines. My line is 1. Ann PIERSON & Jacob CRAIG, 2. Rachel CRAIG & William MAXWELL, 3. Jacob MAXWELL & Elizabeth Ann WARRICK, 4. Amos C. MAXWELL & Annie E. DAVIS 5. Hattie MAXWELL & William Bellew COX, 6. Esther G. 2. Sandi Craig
    3. William Valentine Craig was my grandfather and was born on Valentine's Day....about 1850-ish. I believe he lived in Birmingham Alabama. His wife was Mary Alice Wood. Her family settled in Sylacauga Alabama. I know he had brothers, but don't know who they were, or who his parents were. Mary Alice Wood had two sisters and a brother. Her grandmother's name was Sara Lucretia Applewhite and I have been told that this woman is Cherokee(I have a picture of her). I don't know who Mary Alice Wood's parents were. I have been told that the Scottish Craigs that came from North Carolina frequently married Cherokees. I'm trying to trace my history to establish Cherokee heritage....and also just for family records. I'm new to trying to find this geneology stuff and find myself running in circles! Help? 1. [CRAIG-L] William WADE and Catharine CRAIG who disappeared.
    2. Eldon Wade
    3. Hi Folks, I apologize for cross posting but I could use your help. I am looking for my gg-grandparents William WADE and Catharine CRAIG who disappeared during the Civil War period.  They appear on the 1860 Marshall Co AL census with their son James wade.  William was b. abt. 1834 and Catharine was b. abt. 1836. I cannot find William or Catharine after the 1860 census. In 1870 I find James living with his maternal grandmother Nancy Craig in Marshall Co AL.    I have found a William Wade who joined the 12th AL Cavalry, Co E at Blue Springs, AL on 9-3-1863 but I cannot find enough info on this William to determine if he is my William. I have not been able to determine where Blue Springs is or was located but one source indicates that the 12th AL Cav. did recruit from the Marshall Co area.    I realize that they could have simply died but if so I would like to confirm that. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.    Eldon
