Nov 1898 in Dyer Co., TN. Pearl's surname is nearly illegible on the marriage record, but the bond was signed by I. C. or J. C. Craig, and she supposedly had some kind of connection with the Craig family of Dyer Co. We have been unable to confirm her maiden name to trace that side of the family tree. Pearl and Henry had two children, Edna Gertrude (my grandmother) and Edward Paul Rushing. Edward Paul died without issue. Edna m. James E. Lillard in Gibson Co. abt 1919. Sometime between 1902 and 1910, Henry and Pearl divorced, and Henry got custody of the two children. Pearl later remarried, and the last anyone knew, she was living in Missouri, where we understood she had died. About 6 years ago, my uncle met Pearl's grandson by her second marriage, who was then working for the Memphis Police Department. He can't recall the man's name, but the two confirmed their relationship. Ca! n anyone help me find out more about Pearl and her family?
[email protected] wrote: Dear [email protected], We may have a connection here. I have two Craig families, each with a John that was born around the turn of the century, and both of their mothers were an Isabella/Isobel Wood. I've found that around this time, many seem to have married a distant (or not so much) cousin/relative. This is the first family that may likely be yours: John Craig, b.1801, Seatown of Portlethen. Son of George and Isabella Wood (m. 1801) Banchory Devenick. Other children of George and Isabella are James (1803)--my 3rdgreatgrandfather, Elspet (1805) and Lily (1810). I suspect this has a chance of being your family due to the names of your John Craig's children. I also have a John Craig, b.1797, son of John Craig and Isabella Wood, (m.1792) Banchory Devenick). Other children of John and Isabella are Margaret (1793), Alexander (1795), Helen (1799), Isobel (1802)--my 3rdgreatgrandmother, the wife of James Craig indicated above, Jean (1804), and George (1807). Would you be willing to share any information about your findings of Craigs in Portlethen cemetery and other research? Please feel free to email me directly as well. I've "rescued" an old autograph album which originally belonged to Laura A. WHITTIER of Vienna, Maine. The album dates from 1890-1898 and includes both family and friends. Those included are: Autograph Album Presented to: Laura A. WHITTIER By her Teacher, Addie M. HODSDON ? for the Summer Term. 90 Family: · Alice W. MESERVE, Lawrence, Kansas, Feb. 16, 1894 Cousin · Nancy E. BATES, Leeds, ME, Vienna, Feb. 1, 1892 Cousin · Charles F. MESERVE, Lawrence, Kansas, No. Vienna, Maine, Jan. 25, 1891 · Abbie M. MESERVE, Lawrence, Kansas, N. Vienna, Feb. 16, 1892 · Arthur C. WHITTIER, New Sharon, Maine, June 24, 1898 · Clarence D. YOUNG, Clagnato, Washington, Aug. 30, 1891 Cousin · Carrie A. CRAIG, Waltham, Mass, Sept. 23, 1890 Cousin · Helen Abbott WHITTIER, New Sharon, Maine, Farmington, June 24, 1898 Cousin · Sarah B. BEAN, Vienna, Maine, April 12, 1893 Aunt · Florilla G. BEAN, Vienna, Maine, Sept. 22, 1895 · Addie E. WHITTIER, Vienna, Maine, Oct. 31, 1895 · Charles F. MESERVE, Lawrence, Kansas, No. Vienna, Maine, Feb. 15, 1892 Friends: · A.R. BRADBURY D.D., Vienna, July 28, 1890 · Vesta M. RUSSELL, Vienna, Maine, Oct. 27, 1895 · Ernest GRADY, Chesterville, Maine, April 20, 1896 · Linnie M. BEAN, Newburyport, Mass, August 3, 1893 · Eugene D. LADD, Vienna, Maine · Lillian N. ALLEN, Vienna, ME, Apr. 5, 1897 · Lydia C. MOOERS, Vienna, Maine, Sept. 14, 1895 · Mabel E. WOOD, Auburn, Maine, Sept. 4, 1896 · Ida E. CAMERON, North Vienna, Maine · Margaret E. CARSLEY, Farmington, Maine, June 21, 1898 · Ethel M. DOUST, Vienna, Maine, July 18, 1897 · Nettie A. ALLEN, Vienna, Maine, Aug 25, 1890 · Etta M. PULSIFER, Readfield, Maine, North Vienna, Feb. 20, 1897 · Lillian A. FOLSOM, Vienna, ME, Apr. 19, 1896 · Leona V. MASON, N. Vienna, Maine, Nov. 18, 1894 · Eugene E. WAIT, Vienna, ME, Oct. 25, 1895 · Helen M. KING, South Paris, Maine, Farmington, June 20, 1898 · Jessie T. POTTER, Dorchester, Mass, August 15, 1896 · Maude G. CLARK, April 22, 1897 · Bertha E. BROWN, Vienna, Maine, March 16, 1895 · Lena ALLEN, Vienna, Maine, May 25, 1897 Based on limited research I believe that the album may have belonged to Laura Anne WHITTIER b. 20 Nov 1882 at Vienna, Maine to parents Hiram WHITTIER and Henrietta Augusta BEAN. Laura Anne died 18 January 1950. Also signing in the album might be Arthur Craig WHITTIER b. 6 Mar 1881 at New Sharon, ME, the son of Ovando Porter WHITTIER and Elizabeth Ellen CRAIG. Arthur's sister Helen Abbott WHITTIER b. 22 Nov 1882 at New Sharon, ME appears to be another signer in the album noting that she is Laura's cousin. Another WHITTIER Family entry appears to come from Addie Ella WHITTIER b. 29 Sept. 1881, the daughter of Edward Everett WHITTIER and Ida M. ADAMS, Addie later married Blinn Whittemore RUSSELL on 21 July 1910 at Vienna, ME, Addie died 29 July 1952 at Lewiston, ME. Charles F. & Abbie M. MESERVE both signing in Laura's album are found in Rockland, MA during the 1880 census living with Mary WHITTIER age 65. Mary is not noted as a relative, however, I'm assuming that she is related, maybe Abbie's Mother since Abbie is noted as age 24 at the time of the census. The BATES entry, noted as a cousin appears to be Nancy E. BATES the daughter of James E. & Augusta BATES who with three children (Willis, Nancy E., and Lester R. BATES) were listed in the 1880 census at Leeds, ME. Nancy was noted as 13 years of age when the census was taken. I also find Clarence Derbin YOUNG b. 18 October 1872 at Lewis County, Washington to parents George YOUNG and Arminda Adams WHITTIER. Clarence Derbin YOUNG died 30 December 1952. The family of George & Arminda WHITTIER YOUNG was in Lewis, Washington during the 1880 census along with three children, Fred L., Clarence D., and Ruth F. YOUNG. I am hoping to locate someone from Laura's family so that this wonderful old family treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Hi Ken I am not related to this line, but I've had an interest in the value of such tests. Would such a test be able to prove that all Craigs come from a common ancestor? Are these tests afordable or accurate? Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
