Today we submitted a DNA sample from a Laurens Co., SC Craig descendant whose family originated in Ireland according to research and records. This group left the Port of Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland in late 1773 and arrived in Charleston, SC Feb. 24, 1774 on the ship Betsy. When we get the results back we will post the results of the test and the results of Y -DNA searches on the web. Happy Holidays. God Bless. Herb Hendricks Retired NASA Physicist Group Admin. Our picture is of a fireplace that a relative had in the 1930's. It shows a craig family crest that matches descriptions of the Craig clan crest, etc. However there is no other record in the family of this crest. Your note makes me wonder if this relative saw the same window you did and copied it. I can't seem to find the window you mention on the internet anywhere. Did you happen to get a picture of it?

Surnames: Craig Campbell Ramsey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4IQ.2ACEB/4510 Message Board Post: I am researching the Craig family of western PA that are descendants of William Craig and Mary Gamble. One their children is Hugh and another John (my direct ancestor). These folks were originally from Ireland, County Fermanagh, Townland of Lurganboy. Hugh was born in 1799 and died in 1876 in Shelocta, PA. He married Barbara Ramsey. We have a group photograph with no documentation and need help. I suspect this might be a photo from Hugh Craig's funeral. I am looking for anyone who can help identify this group, the date, setting or any other hints. We suspect that the man on the far right may be a young Edwin Craig of Allegheny/Pittsburgh who is in on our direct tree. Using a count of Hugh's children plus spouses this picture looks like it might be Hugh Craig clan. I can't place the man in the center of the photo. He could possibly be Hugh's brother William but we don't know if William outlasted Hugh or not. The older women could potentially be Ann Craig and Margaret Craig. Children of Hugh and Barbara (paren=age at hugh's death) are: William (39), Jane (38), Mary (35), Ann Margaret(33), Hannah(31), John (29), Sarah (27). Adding in spouses for above the numbers work out about right for the people in picture. This photo was amongst others once owned by Edwin Craig and his sister Matilda Staunton Craig ("Daisie"), both from Pittsburgh/Sewickley area. It has no identifying info but other hints point towards Edwin at someone's funeral. It could also be some part of the Joseph Craig/Matilda Staunton family. Any help anyone can provide in identifying this group, even if you can help just date it, would be greatly appreciated. Even just confirmation of funeral assumption would be helpful. Greg Craig

He was born before she and Eli were married. I don't think Eli was Bens father, my research shows Bens dad was killed in the Civil War before they were married. My research shows John Craig, father of America, then Ben Craig, son of America married to Carrie Bailey, then Charles Willard Craig son of Ben, then my dad Charlie Harvey Craig. I haven't found out the name of Bens dad, I know he did go by the name of Hollenbeck for a while. Can you help? I have been years trying to find out this info. Thanks Norma Johnson Bakersfield, CA

When he entered service he gave Lucas County Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Soldier: JOHN RICHARD CRAIG Born: December 23, 1928, Caucasian Date of loss: December 3, 1950, MIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Craig family is one of those missing. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. Harold Davis 40th Infantry Division Korea ’52-‘53 910-791-2333 hgdavis@bellsouth.net
