I believe she must have lived in Jersey City and was possibly connected to the Barrow family, as there is an Ann Barrow Craig, daughter of John Barrow, and sister of William Barrow who married a Brower, that is somewhat connected to my Swain family. My gg grandfather, Shubael Edgar Swain had a daughter who married William B VanVorst. The VanVorsts and the Barrows had identical mansions, the Barrow mansion still being in existence. For some reason, I have been trying to decipher, he willed his Tannersville,NY farm to Lucy A Craig until she died, when his son, Edgar Swain, would then inherit it. All this did happen. Since this occurred, Lucy must somehow be a very close friend of the family or somehow tied in with them. According to a Tannersville map and a census record from that area in 1880, she was a "Miss." Lucy A. Craig. But I can't seem to find any info on her, just one census record in tannersville( Hunter- Greene Co, NY- ! in the Catskills)

They lived in Jersey City, and the father is John Barrow. The Barrows and the VanVorsts had duplicate mansions there, and the Barrow Mansion still exists. Shubael Edgar Swain's ( my gg grandfather)daughter married William B VanVorst, and he willed his Tannersville, NY summer home to a Lucy A Craig, until she died, when his son would then inherit it ( Edgar Swain. All of this happened. But I therefore think that Lucy is somehow tied up with the Barrow family. There are many Craigs in NJ and NY, but so far, I can't find Lucy, except in 1880 when she was living in Tannersville.

There is a Rachel CRAIG, 87, living in Kentucky in 1860. The family directly below is LAHUE. I've cut and paste the census info, and will attach the .pdf files of the census for you. Sorry I don't have more time, but you can probably trace back from there. If she died in that area, there might be probate records that identify her further. It looks as though she had enough of an estate to have a detailed will. You may want to go to the Library of Virginia's web site and search their digital files for clues. I've found many pieces of information from that source. Rachel LeHue was married to John Craig. John Craig died 13 Dec 1847 and is buried in Concord Cemetary, Grayson County, Ky. Concord is not far from Leitchfield. I do not know whether Rachel is buried at Concord or not but she probably is. On that Census I am thinking that she is living with a grandson. Her children were Spencer, Isaac, Agnes and John, Jr. Spencer is my grgrgrandfather so I know it is not his line she is living with. I am thinking it is John, Jr.'s. They were married in Clark Co. KY 12 Dec 1793. My ancestor is John CRAIG, their oldest son. He was born in mid-1793 by census dates. The sons traveled to IN from Green Co, KY in 1819, traveling along a deer or Indian trail. Hiram T, William Hill, and John settled in what later became Johnson/Morgan counties in Indiana. They traveled with several STOTTS family members and named the creek Stotts Creek. One of the STOTTS married Cynthia CRAIG daughter of John CRAIG and Mary COX. The other link I have is that Andrew COLVILLE's son, Joseph was a good friend of James, and is listed along with Andrew on the first deed I find James name on for a horse. Andrew was married to a Ann or Mary(I don't have the info in front of me.)CRAIG who is the Daughter of a William CRAIG of Lancaster Co, PA. That is where John CRAIG and Mary COX were from. The neighbor on the tax rolls in Washington Co, VA to Thomas HILL, the father of Rebecca, is a John CRAIG. In 1903, the DAR listed only one headstone in the Watts Cemetery, Union Twp, Johnson Co, IN. James CRAIG died 17 Jan 1839 Age 72yrs and the rest illegible. This puts his DOB at approx. 1766. His first deed listed in 1787 puts him at age 21. Any more info would be greatly appreciated. Krealyn

Craig, who lived in the summer home of my g g grandfather, Shubael Edgar Swain, in Tannersville NY, until her death, when his son, Edgar would inherit it. The house was on a large farm owned by the Swains, but when she lived there it was called the Elm Cottage. I have already corresponded with the historian there, and this is as much information that I have. I was hoping she was my gg's other sister, whose name I don't know, but she appears on the map as Miss Lucy A Craig.
