I thought a compilation of Craig Cemeteries in the U.S. might be useful for some of you who are tracking down that elusive ancestor or a loved one's resting place. The following is by no means is a complete list; in fact, there are so many Craig cemeteries in this country that it will take some time to gather all the information. This list is just the beginning. Please note that in some cases the name "Craig Cemetery" can be deceiving, such as in the case of the Craig Cemetery in Craig, CO, named after the city and not its founders. There is also one instance where I have the name of the cemetery and a list of the Craigs who rest there but haven't a clue as to the actual cemetery location! On some sites you will have to follow links to find the location/description of the cemetery and not all have an index of persons buried there. As a native Ohioan, I do know that in the Buckeye State there is an ongoing Tombstone Inscription Project whereby ordinary citizens are encouraged to photograph and transcribe tombstones in small or family cemeteries. If you have such a project in your town, parish, county or state I would highly encourage everyone to participate, even if it's just contributing photos and information of your own family's gravesites. Future generations will thank you. Consider this an ongoing project; I will post other lists as time permits. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/il/fayette/cemeteries/craigcem.txt Craig Cemetery Location: North Hurricane Township, Fayette Co, IL http://www.co.warren.oh.us/genealogy/cem/Craig.htm Craig Cemetery Warren County, Ohio http://www.us-data.org/ia/linn/cemeteries/craigcem.txt Craig Cemetery Franklin Township section 7 (Not clear where this cemetery is located. Surnames: Craig, Crage, Cragg, Fox, Eustice, Eustace, Searle, Searl, Hicks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.craig/4543/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for descendants of Frederick and Eliza Craig/Fox. Information found to date has used either the surname Fox or the surname Craig (and variant spellings such as Crage, Cragg etc). The surname Fox is used exclusively in the American records. Frederick (c1815 - ) and Eliza (c1817 - ) lived in St Ewe/St Mewan/St Austell parishes of Cornwall, England. They had at least eight children: 1. Thomas (c1840 - ) 2. Mary (c1842 - ), possibly married James Henry Searle 3. Fanny (c1843 - ) married William H Eustice 4. Eliza (c1846 - ) 5. Agnes (c1849 - ) 6. Frederick (c1851 - ) 7. Harriet (c1853-1885) married Richard E Hicks 8. Catherine/Kate (c1856 - ) Frederick died sometime between 1861 and 1871 in Cornwall. Eliza and at least 5 of her children (Thomas, Mary, Fanny, Frederick and Harriet) immigrated to the United States at various times throughout the period 1861 - 1880. - Thomas, Fanny & Frederick appear in the 1870 census for West Fairlee, Orange County, Vermont. Eliza, Mary and Harriet must have immigrated sometime later as they are all recorded in the 1871 census for St Austell Parish, Cornwall. - Eliza and four of her children (Thomas, Mary, Fanny & Harriet) and their families are recorded in the 1880 census for Ely, Orange County, VT. No record of Frederick after the 1870 census was taken has been found to date. Sometime after the 1880 census was taken, the families left Vermont. - Thomas and his family went to Morris County, New Jersey - Mary & James Searle and their family went to Worcester County, Massachusetts sometime prior to 1888 - Widow Fanny Eustice and her children went to Hartford Co, Connecticut sometime between 1888 and 1890 - Harriet & Richard Hicks and their family went to Montreal, Canada sometime before 1883 - No record of mother Eliza has been found after the 1880 census I am very interested in sharing/trading information regarding any or all of these families.
http://longislandgenealogy.com/NYSMarrLic/NYmarlicense.htm Province of New York - Marriage Licenses Names of persons for whom Marriage Licenses were issued by the Secretary of the Province of New York, previous to 1784. For consistency, these are arranged in date order in the format of: Date; Husband; Wife. This is NOT an exact, accurate copy, but rather a distillation of the pertinent information set in (what I believe to be) a more useful format. This shows the date the License was issued, NOT the date of marriage. There are some obvious errors that appear in the publication. Originally appearing on the site of Robert L. Billard You can visit his site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rbillard/index.htm Here are the Craig marriages from that list: 1736 08 Nov; Samuel Craig; Gertha Ward 1737 12 Dec; Robert Craige; Catherine Miller 1759 06 Jun; John Craig; Rebecca McGeer 1763 03 Jan; John Craig; Lydia King 1763 28 Dec; James Forbes; Rebecca Craige 1767 13 Jun; John Craig; Jane Clark 1780 07 Oct; George Craig; Mary Bohan 1783 16 Sep; James Duncan; Margaret Craig

I'm seeking information on the family of Agnes Craig who married John Gilliland in Scotland in 1685. Son Samuel Gilliland was born Scotland 1694. These are my ancestors. My Gillilands and Craigs were covenanters sent to Northern Ireland. Sometime after the birth of Samuel's son Nathan in 1720 the family came to America and were among the first settlers of Augusta County, Virginia. My confirmed records for this family in Augusta County date to 1745. I have three possible lineages for Agnes but cannot pinpoint/confirm any one line. I would really appreciate some help with this! I wonder if my Agnes Craig might also be related to other pioneering Craigs who settled in Augusta County. -- Kate Maynard
