Shields, 83, of Gentry died Sunday at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Higfhfill to Bob and Mary Roper Cowden. She painted the faces on the original Pool of SIioam characters and was a member of East Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded om death by her husband. Wayne Shields,two sisters. Sybil C. Long and Larue Walker, and one brother, Henry Cowden. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Shields of Joplin, Mo., and Terrel Shields of Siloam Springs, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Service is 12 p.m. Wednesday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs with Marvin Loyd officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
