Hi Ted I think it is likely that Mary Cowden is from Virginia or Maryland. That seems to be where most of the Mercers are from as well. Do you have parents, siblings or children for Samuel? It seems unlikely that Mary would be as far south as the Carolinas (no one ever seems to leave the south) unless they were Quakers.
