During the Civil War here in Northwest Araksans several of my great-grandfather's family members took off for the Dublin,Texas, area to avoid the Union attacks from Missouri —my great-great-grandfather Lyn Cowden, a blacksmith, was threatened with tarring and feathering by both Union and Confederate troops. While my grandfather Thomas Walker "Bob" Cowden was born here in NW Ark., his father (Henry Leonard Cowden) and mother went back to Dublin where they died.
