Cheers, Clay Fox ---- From: Bolivar Herald-Free Press Bernice Shuler Bernice Shuler, 68, Bolivar, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, in Cox Medical Center South. The daughter of Bertha Cowden and Richard Asberry Lawson, she was born March 10, 1931, at Adonis. She was a beautician for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. Her parents and a sister, Zelma Barker, preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Tony Newcomb, of Bolivar; two granddaughters, Jaime Lyn Newcomb and Jennifer Leigh Newcomb, both of Jacksonville, Ill.; her close, dear friend, Jim Welch; and three nieces, Delores Lumpe, of Sedalia, Hazel Andrews of Bolivar and Phyllis Wilkinson of Springfield. Roy H. Vincent Roy Hadley Vincent, 90, Bolivar, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in his home. He was born Oct. 3, 1908, at Polk to William L. and Maggie Cowden Vincent. A lifelong resident of Polk County, he was an active farmer until his death and had worked for the state and county road departments. He was united in marriage to Pearl Barnes on March 18, 1933, and to this union two children were born. He was saved as a young married man during a revival at Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church at Polk and united with the church and was baptized. Later, moving to Goodson, he united with Goodson Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member, attending as health permitted. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Pearl, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Deral Joe and Joan Vincent, and a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Randy Barham, all of Bolivar; six grandchildren, Mark and Alan Vincent, Debbie Rains, Diane Vincent, Cindy Francka and David Barham; 10 great-grandchil! dren a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jean Huckaby and Pauline Byrum; and a brother, Ray Vincent, who died as a young child. Maxine C. Little Maxine Cowden Little, 77, Santa Fe, N.M., formerly of Pleasant Hope, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Ponce de Leon Retirement Community, Santa Fe, N.M. She was born Oct. 16, 1912, to Eugene and Verna Kinsey Cowden. She was a retired ceramic shop business owner and homemaker. She is survived by her mother, Verna Cowden of Pleasant Hope; two sons, Larry Brawner of Pleasant Hope and Gary Little of Elmhurst, Ill.; a daughter, Becky Montgomery of Santa Fe, N.M.; a brother, Porter Cowden of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Helen Anderson of Edmond, Okla., and Dorothy Pritchard of Pleasant Hope; as well as two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Edward Little; and a grandson, Ted Ticknor. Ruby Cowden Ruby Cowden, 76, Bolivar, died at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in Citizens Memorial Hospital. She was born March 6, 1922, in Polk County, and she was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Bolivar area. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley McCormick of Bolivar and Debra Barton of Fordland; six sons, Oren "Junior" Cowden, Bolivar; Robert Cowden, Springfield; Richard Cowden, Lee's Summit; Roger Cowden, Belton; Jimmie Cowden, Flemington; and Mike Cowden, Bolivar; four sisters, Rhoda Porter, Ventura, Calif.; Beulah Lobaugh, Olatha, Colo.; Betty Beck, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; and Mary Earwood, Las Vegas, Nev. Other survivors include one brother, Luther Standley, Bolivar, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Oren "Junior" Cowden Oren Leon "Junior" Cowden, 60, Bolivar, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility. The son of Oren Leon Sr. and Ruby Esther Standley Cowden, he was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Polk County. Survivors include his two sisters, Shirley McCormick of Bolivar and Debra Barton of Fordland; his five brothers, Robert Cowden of Springfield, Richard Cowden of Lee's Summit, Roger Cowden of Belton, Jimmie Cowden of Flemington and Mike Cowden of Bolivar; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Shirley N. McCormick Shirley N. McCormick, 58, Bolivar, died about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, on Mo. 13 near Lowry City as a result of an automobile accident. She was born Feb. 3, 1941, in Polk County, the daughter of Oren Leon Cowden Sr. and Ruby Esther Standley Cowden. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Dr. Scott McCormick of the home; one son, Richard McCormick of Bolivar; two daughters, Susan Jones of Norman, Okla., and Karen Poston of Springfield; one sister, Debra Barton of Fordland; five brothers, Robert Cowden of Springfield, Roger Cowden of Belton, Mike Cowden of Bolivar, Richard Cowden of Lee's Summit and Jimmie Cowden of Flemington; and five grandchildren.
