Can't express how happy to know there is finally a Cowden Family e-mail group. It's such a rare name, at least in my neck of the wood. My aunt recently compiled research on the line which she has collected and documented over the past 25 years or so. There are still a lot of questions, but she's getting up in years and wanted to get what she had into the hands of the younger generation before it was too late. Her parents — Thomas Walker "Bob" Cowden, b 6 July 1884, m. Mary Jane Roper, 8 Aug. 1909, d. 12 Aug, 1972; lifelong resident of Benton County, Arkansas. "Bob's" parents — Henry Leonard Cowden, b. 23 April 1859, Benton County, Arkansas, m. Clarissa Clementine "Lissa" Williams, 1 Jan. 1882, d. 1 March 1891, Dublin, Texas Henry Leonard's parents — Leonard "Len' "Lynn" "Lenord" Cowden, b. 1797, North Carolina, m. Marguret, bef. 1830 (?), m. Mary Catherine Thomas (probably Cherokee), ca. 1846, d. ca 1880 'Lynn's" parents — Thomas (William?) Cowden, b. ca. 1775, possibly in Scotland, m. #1 Cattern (believed to be Cherokee) ca 1790, m. #2 Nancy Crewes Families allied with this line include: Hammack, Thomas, Harvey and Gore.
