My maiden name is Cowdin and my great great grandfather came from New York (family lore has him born in Buffalo, but no confirmation). My Cowdin line too has an oral history of Native American heritage with no proof whatsoever -- other than looks and coloring of some of my relatives. I have my gg grandfather's Civil War records and he is listed as having black hair, dark skin and brown eyes (but is listed as "white"). His name was Ephraim Cowdin (sometimes spelled Cowden) and he is my brick wall. I am wondering if somehow there is some link to your line. I am now willing to consider anything. Of interest, my cousin at one time was sure that our ancestor was related to Loami Cowden -- but it wasn't to be. Now again, I'm wondering if somehow there is some connection.
