My name is Alan PAUL and I live in Victoria Australia. I an researching my family tree and have in one of my Scottish Ancestors I have COWDEN as a middle name. Her name is Agnes COWDEN McKEAN born abt 1827 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland. Her parents were Alexander McKEAN and Winifred (Unity) PATERSON. I do not know who Alexander McKEAN's parents were but know that Winifred (Unity) PATERSON's parents were Redmond Paterson and Isabella CLARK. Happy Holidays everyone I finally progressed one more generation into my Cowden line. William Cowden living in VA married Elizabeth Snanely (1790-1854) of Dutch Descent. He had four sons: James 1810, Amos 1816, John 1818, Eli 1832-1863. Daughters: Polly 1814 who married S. Wolfe; Catherine 1825-1852 married R. Crabtree; and Rachel 1812 married N. Harris. Looking for information on SAMUEL COWDEN who married two Rebeccas. One was Rebecca Robinson whom he married in Warren Co., OH either 11th or 12th of March, 1818. He also married Rebecca Ryan. I have no dates on them, but I do know that they had SARAH ANN Cowden who married Merritt Barnett 01Mar1866 in Lucas Co., IA and died in Dresden, KS in 1922. Another daughter, ZARILDA Cowden married Merritt's brother, Thompson Barnett. I have no dates on them. Their other children were MARY, JANE, JAMES, HANNAH, RACHEL and SAMUEL CLEMENT Cowden. Samuel Clement Cowden married Emma Luanna Williams, and their children were VELMA, CRYSTAL (who died young), FLOYD (also died young) and WILLIAM. My Samuel Cowden was in Augusta Co. prior to the Rev. war and contracted to provide various items for the war effort. After the war he left for Mecklenburg Co. Hi! I'm researching the descendants (and ancestors if I can find them!) of Robert COWDEN Sr. of Wythe Co., Virginia. He was born abt 1750 and from what I can find his wife's name was Mary B. ????. He had two known sons: Joseph (my line) and Robert Jr. There were other younger COWDENs in the county, and I know some of them must also be his sons.
