15TH ANNUAL FOUR-FAMILIES REUNION The ALLGOOD, BYNUM, CORNELIUS, and MURPHREE families, who were among the early settlers of Blount County, AL, will hold their 15th Annual Four-Families Reunion on September 28th and 29th, 2002. ALL descendants of these four families are invited to join us for a weekend of history, fun, and fellowship. Events will take place at the Woodmen of the World Life Ins. Society, 28340 State Hwy 75, Oneonta, AL. There will be a Genealogy Session on Saturday, September 28th. The building will be open at 8 a.m. We have two guest speakers scheduled, beginning at 9:00 a.m. so plan to come early. The Family Reunion will be on Sunday, September 29th. Please come anytime after 9 a.m. and bring a covered dish. Activities will begin around 12:30 p.m. with a few opening remarks by the President, followed by lunch. A business meeting will be held after lunch and the remainder of the afternoon will be filled with fun, fellowship, and drawings for door prizes. The case involves Michael Elliot, who was convicted of the 1991 murder and robbery of Earl Cowden. Elliot was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years. Kentucky Public Defender Marguerite Thomas, along with three attorneys and two law students for the innocence project in New York, filed suit Wednesday in US District Court in Covington, asking that blood samples collected at the murder scene 11 years ago be tested, not destroyed. Thomas claims detectives collected blood samples from Cowden's home that may have come from the real killer. She says someone other than Elliott broke a window to get into the Cowden home and that it will prove there was a second perpetrator

James Cowden's son David (my ancestor) moved from Hampshire VA to Knox Co. OH in 1820s. Also moving to Knox Co. from Chester Co. PA in 1820s is an elderly John Cowden, son of Robert Cowden, gson of William Cowden of Chester Co. PA. The names James and David are common to both lines. I don't believe their moving to same area was coincidence.

The family was living 5 dwellings away from Lewis Cowden (and Rachel). Next door is their son John Howard Cowden. With so many Cowdens on one census page made me think perhaps Robert and Lewis were brothers. They were about the same age, but Lewis said his father was born in Delaware and Robert claimed Pennsylvania. But errors are not unusual. Then I found your posting, and wonder if you have learned more since then. I read the Cowden and the Robinson list messages regarding these families. The only thing I found to add to your info, in 1920 census, I found the widow Rachel Cowden, age 60, living with an elderly lady named Effie, 76; and was listed as companion. Still in Coleraine township. I would be ever so happy to learn that you know about Robert Cowden, who married my great aunt Mary Fox about 1878 in Oxford, PA. Their descendants continue to elude me; just hope we might have crossing pathes. Cheers, Clay Fox
