John died along the way and Mary continued on and settled in Washington Co, PA. There is a common belief that John Cowden was the son on Matthew Cowden of Paxtang, but the wills of several of Matthew's sons suggest that this is not true. So, from where did John Cowden come? Some researchers have suggested I look in Chester Co. You say the Chester Co lines are well documented. Is there something you can share or can you check your information for a John Cowden who married Mary Reynolds and/or who departed for western PA? Thanks Dick Wert

Walker was the brother of Lynn Cowden of Sevier Co., TN., and POSSIBLY the son of Thomas and Cattern Cowden (both born bef 1774) of Spartanburg/Greenville Cos., SC and Williamson Co., TN. Much more research is needed on this family to prove anything...There is family tradition that there is Native American blood in the family - in my own line from Lynn Cowden's second wife, Mary Catherine Thomas, who was supposedly a half-blood Cherokee, daughter or granddaughter of Isaac Thomas and a Cherokee woman...There may be other instances, as the Cowdens were in TN early 1800s, and settled. I have a website called Cowden Connections, where I have Lynn and Walker Cowden, as well as others I think are their siblings, and files on Matthew Cowden, Robert Cowden I and Hannah, his wife, and several other Cowden lines, as well as my Lawson family. In the 1920 census Troy listed his father from IL and mother from IN. In 1930 he listed them as being from Missouri.
