    3. Name: Cowan, E. B. Born: May 16 1826 Died or Buried: Nov. 27 1906 Buried: Oak Grove County/State: Union, KY Cemetery Notes: Oak Grove Cemetery consists of 2 sections. When you find the cemetery, you will first notice the newer section that is fenced in and kept mowed. Behind this fenced in area is what appears to be the woods. Look again and you will see tombstones dotted around amongst the trees, bushes, and vines. These older tombstones go part of the way down the hill. If you visit this cemetery, watch your step, as the vines will trip you or else a hole will almost get you. Too bad we can't get someone to help clean out this cemetery. There might be even more graves that I am missing. I found several by stepping on something hard, moving the vines, and finding a tombstone laying on the ground. Of the readable tombstones, the oldest one is from 1866, Naomi Tripp, and the most recent is 1946, Ella Caton. Name: Cowan, EULA Born: 1866 Died or Buried: 1947 Buried: Maguire-Fairview Section: NW-R14-3 County/State: Cleveland, OK Notes: Wife of Alex Name: Cowan, Earl Born: 1894 Died or Buried: 1901 Buried: Iron River Cemetery Section: 21, lot 23 County/State: Iron, MI Notes: LOCATION: This cemetery is located within the city limits of Iron River at the intersection of River Avenue and Hunter Road. It is about 1/4 mile directly north of the Iron County Armory. RECORDS: Records for this cemetery are kept on file with the Iron River City Clerk. She can be contacted at(906) 265-4719. Also on file with the City Clerk are Burial Transit Permits for some individuals buried here which give exact death date, location, and cause of death, going back as far as 1946. It should be noted that a good number of graves in this cemetery are marked unknown. Apparently someone is buried in these spaces, but there is nothing to indicate WHO the person is. What you find recorded here is a combination of what the city had on record, along with information gathered after carefully inspecting each tombstone. All spellings appear here as they were on the tombstone. HISTORY: The village of Iron River was platted in 1881 when the area began to be settled, based around the mining of iron ore. In 1903 $150 was put up for the purpose of establishing a cemetery (although there are burials prior to that date). Many of the founding fathers and early settlers of the community are buried here. Recent burials have been rare less than 5 a year in this century. Name: Cowan, Edward W.
