I have numerous Isaac Cowans (Cowen), the furthest back b. 1788 in Dutchess County, son of John Cowan, b. btwn 1744-1764 in Scotland, son of David Cowan, b.btwn 1720 and 1745, also in Scotland. I have some copies of various census with information on this line as well as some other information, esp. descendants. I don't have any record of another Isaac born in 1756 tho I'm sure he must be related somehow. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, I crashed my computer around last April and never got the response notice until the one from Jean. If Jean has any additional information on Joseph's ancestors, John and David, it would help me place them. My John and David had many descendants also named John and David (also Isaac, Peter, Alexander). The only Mary Fleming I have was married to a Jacob Martin, so obviously not the same one.
