Place and year of their marriage? I am asking because our COWAN family has been unable to locate a Thomas Cowan, b. 1858 McDowell Co. NC and brother William Cowan, b.ca 1860 also in McDowell Co. NC. They and their brother John Cowan(located Bowie Co. Texas family) left home after the death of their mother and remarriage of their father. Last known records were in Fort Smith, Ark. Court Records trying to notify them of an inheritance from grandparents Desie and Thomas Long of NC ca late 1880's or early 1890's. They were listed in Purcell Indian Territory at the time. William, I believe, was in the part called Red River Valley. William's middle name "Reuben" caught my attention as well as the Whistnant surname of his wife. The Cowan and Whistnant families were neighbors on Cane Creek in McDowell and earlier Burke Co. NC. Any information would be appreciated. Betty Frazer [email protected]
