    1. [COWAN-L] Origins of Settlers in the Plantation of Ulster
    2. This may prove useful in directing the researcher to the correct location in Scotland after locating a family member in Ulster. Origin of settlers On the basis that the settlers would have mainly come from the estates of the undertakers the origin of Scottish settlers by County pans out as : Armagh , Fews barony - East Lothian, Midlothian Cavan, Clankee barony - Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire Cavan, Tullyhunco barony - Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Midlothian. Donegal , Boylagh and Banagh barony - Ayrshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Wigtonshire Donegal, Portlough barony - Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire Fermanagh, Knockninny barony - Fifeshire, Kincardineshire, Kinrosshire Fermanagh, Magheraboy barony - East Lothian, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, Tyrone, Mountjoy barony - Ayrshire, East Lothian, Perthshire Tyrone, Strabane barony - Ayrshire, Berwickshire, Linlithgowshire, Renfrewshire, Perthshire. It is a possibility that some Walkers (Wigtonshire) and Cowans (Dunbartonshire) may have ended up in Donegal. Just a thought. Regards, Robert Cowan
