I will paraphrase(and sometimes even plagiarize)from a column in today's Houston,Texas(USA)Chronicle which was written by genealogist Mic Barnette. [email protected] NARA (National Archives Records Administration) will,on Monday,April 1st, open to researchers the 1930 CENSUS ! It was taken just after the 1929 Wall Street crash and has been closed to researchers for 72 years. Questions asked on the census were: > Name - > Age - > Address - > Immigration,Education,& Military info. - > Rent or own home or farm - > Occupation of each person - > Did they work - > Place of birth (each person) - > Place of birth of their father & mother - > How many radios in house - The total cost to acquire the entire 1930 census is $147,118.The cost of a single roll of microfilm is $34. The number of rolls for some states is: > Texas -127 rolls > Louisians -45 > Arkansas -36 > Oklahoma -47 > New Mexico -9 > Maryland -40 > New York -269 > Hawaii -7 NARA (Southwest Region) in Ft.Worth,Texas will open to researchers at midnight. Other NARA facilities will operate with similar schedules & ceremonies.
