    1. [COWAN-L] James Marion Cowan - Tennessee
    2. John T. Spradling
    3. Hello List, James Marion Cowan is my Cowan brickwall. He was born at an unknown date and place. He had two sons by his first wife, names all unknown, and upon her death the boys went to live with her family (parents or siblings). He was a Confederate Veteran and his unit is believed to be the 11th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. He had a brother, in another unit, who was wounded in the Civil War, but James himself was not wounded. James married a second wife, Eliza L. Bond of Fentress County, Tennessee after the Civil War and they had a son, Samuel Henry Cowan. Samuel was born 13 October 1867 and grew up in and around Byrdstown, Tennessee. After James Marion's death, Samuel and his mother, Eliza, lived with his grandfather, Samuel Bond. When he became an adult, Samuel Henry moved to the near vicinity of Dallas, Texas. James Marion died of consumption about June of 1868. It is believed that he died in Vicksburg, Mississippi, while seeking treatment for the disease. Most of this is family "word-of-mouth" information. If anyone recognizes anything here, any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, John
