I am descended through Alexander Cowan of Newton Co., Ga. He was the brother of Robert Cowan mentioned by a prior poster. This Cowan family came to SC and settled in the Fishing Creek area of Chester County sometime just prior to 1800. Alexander Cowan along with Robert and family moved to the Newton Co. area of GA around the mid 1820s. Robert was a charter member and elder of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church which is probably closer to Conyers, Ga now. The Alexander Cowan family settled in the Snapping Shoals area of Newton Co, Ga.
