    1. Cowan--Sellers Land Transaction

    3. A while back, someone posted information about a land transaction that took place in Baltimore, Maryland between a John Cowan & a Robert Sellers. I was wondering if that person knows anything about the family of the said, Robert Sellers or the family of this said, John Cowan? My reason for asking is that I descend from the Sollars/Sollers/Sellers family as well the Cowan/Cowen/Cowans family. The original Sollers/Sollars/Sellers family immigrated to Baltimore, Maryland and supposedly this is where my Cowan family originally came from. This past weekend I visited The Old School Baptist Church Cemetery, located in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Buried in that cemetery were a set of grandparents whose names were written on the headstones as "James and Sarah Cowans." In the 1850 federal census for Clay Twp., Huntingdon County, PA for this family, James "Cowen" is listed as 56, Sarah as 54, and living in the household with them is a son James age 17, a daughter Ann age 20, and a woman named Ann Sollars age 62. When I visited the cemetery this weekend, buried right beside James and Sarah Cowans were two women by the names of: Matilda A. Sollers, and Nancy Sollers. This leads me to at least several speculations: 1) that Sarah Cowan may have been a sister of Ann, Matilda, and Nancy; 2) it is also a possibility that Ann Sollars was a sister of James Cowan and that Matilda and Nancy were her daughters; 3) Matilda "A." Sollers went by, perhaps, a middle name of "Ann." Does anyone know these people. Incidentally, the Cowans children went by the name of Cowan/Cowen not Cowans. I have a death certificate in which Sarah and James' daughter, Sophia was listed as Sophia "Cowen." But, Sophia's brother spelled his name, James "Cowan." About 12-15 miles south, on Route 522 (not far from Meadow Gap Rd. where the Old School Baptist Church is located) near Burnt Cabins, Dublin Twp./Ayr, is located an entrance to Cowans Gap State Park. It was supposed to have been settled by Major Samuel "John" Cowan and his wife Mary Mueller who he met in Boston, MA while serving as a British Officer during the revolutionary war. Samuel Cowan was said to have gone by his middle name of "John" Cowan. Does anyone know the names of the children of Samuel "John" Cowan and Mary? Hoping this rings a bell with someone.
