Just posting my Cowan line. John Cowan married Agnes Tringle (not proven) (My Great Great Great Grandparents. Unknown as to how many children they had. My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Cowan born 1827c Drumlee County Down Ireland married 11 Nov 1847 Newtownards County Down Ireland to Margaret McCutcheon born 1829c Drumawhy County Down. Thomas Died 26 March 1908 at Beith Ayrshire Scotland and Margaret died 21 Feb 1882 at Culzean Ayrshire Scotland. They had 12 children. – Robert, Jane, William, Thomas, Martha, Sarah, Margaret, John Cumming Cowan, Elizabeth Bell Cumming Cowan, Agnes, James Cumming Cowan, and David. Robert was the only one born in Ireland all the others where born in Ayrshire Scotland. Their first born son Robert was my Great Grandfather. Robert was born 1848/9 County Down Ireland married 2 Dec 1870 Dailly Aryshire Scotland to Jane Mckie. Robert died 30 Dec 1924 Mackay, Queesland Australia and Jane died 1 Mar 1875 Dalmellington Ayrshire Scotland. Their children were Thomas, born 10 June 1871 Maybole Ayrshire Scotland Elizabeth born 1 Oct 1872 Dailly Ayrshire Scotland and Alexander born 26 Oct 1874 Dalmelington Ayrshire Scotland. Robert remarried on 23 June 1876 Dalgarva Ayrshire Scotland to Janet Crosbie daughter of Alexander and Margaret (nee McIlwrick) Janet was born 25 June 1855 at Barhill Ayrshire, Scotland and died 24 Nov 1925 Mackay Queensland Australia. Anthony Logan Cowan (Crosbie) born 29 Jan 1875 Barr Ayrshire Scotland. Margaret born 1877 Dailly Ayrshire, Scotland died 13 July 1886 Mackay Queensland, Australia Robert born April 1881 Barhill, Ayrshire Scotland died 26 Sep 1020 Mackay, Queensland, Australia Robert, Janet and the above 6 children came to Australia on 1 Nov 1882 on the Scottish Knight. The following children were born in Australia. Jessie, William, Janet, John, James, Janet, Martha, Henry, Margaret, John and Agnes.. I am descendent from James born 12 Dec 1888 Queensland, Australia married 20 Mar 1913 to Ethel Maud Gregory born 15 Mar 1892 Pinner, England. They had three children Robert, Eleanor and James. Robert born 24 Jan 1914 was my dad. He married on 23 Feb 1935 Mackay, Queensland, Austral to my mother Mary Phyllis Brown born 9 Jun 1915 Mt Perry, Queensland, Australia. They had 4 boys and one girl. My dad died 19 Feb 1946 at Mackay, Queensland, Australia. (I was only 14mths old) and mum died 10 Nov 1979 Bundaberg Queensland, Australia On Thomas and Margaret’s Marriage Certificate it states his father was John Cowan. In 1847 they did not put the mothers name on Certificates. On his death certificate it states his father was William and mother Agnes Tringle. This information was given by his son-in-law, so I consider the information given by Thomas himself at his marriage would be correct. I have found one other brother of Thomas’s coming to Australia and that was John Cumming Cowan, who left London on 28 July 1909 and arrived at Mackay, Queensland, Australia on 10 Oct 1909. They were nominated by Robert’s wife. They did not stay long in Queensland, and eventually moved to Sydney, News South Wales Australia. I have made contact with one of his descendents. I would love to find descendents from some of the other family members – just as we all would on our particular lines.
