Roll Call: The ancestors that I am concrned with are Mary and Martha Cowan who married Hugh and Joseph Dickson as shown on the following chart: Descendants of Andrew Cowan 1 Andrew Cowan 1741 - 1799 . +Mary Walker 1735 - 1786 .... 2 Martha (Ann?) "Patsy" Cowan 1771 - 1840 ........ +Joseph Dickson 1760 - 1839 .... 2 Mary Cowan - 1808 ........ +Hugh Dickson .........and others From well documented family history, it has long been known that Joseph Dickson married Martha Cowan. They were in Montgomery Co.,TN abt 1800 but when and where they married was not known. Deed records say he was "of Orange Co.,NC." The relation of Hugh to Joseph is not known but Hugh is a frequent name in the descendants of Joseph and in a nearby Dickson family in Dickson Co.,TN. Joseph's parents have not been identified. From this mailing list or from GenForum I found that Joseph married Martha in in Jefferson Co.,TN on 9 Feb 1797 and Hugh married Mary around that time also.They are probably the Joseph and Martha that came to Montgomery Co. I have very limited access to early East Tennessee Records and have not been able to find much about these families on the internet. Can anyone give me information about these families?
