I am descended from Magnus Cowan and his 2nd.wife, Jane"Jennet"McAllister, daughter of John and Ann McAllister of Cumberland CO. NC Magnus was in Wilmington,NC by1738 Their son, John, married Elizabeth Salter,daughter of Wm.Salter and Sarah LLoyd of Bladen CO. John Bradley Cowan, son of John and Elizabeth married 1. Catherine Nicholson of Bladen Co. 2. wife unknown 3. Mary McNeel, widow of Daniel McNeel The wedding of John and Mary was in Texas Eliza Jane Cowan, daughter of John Bradley Cowan and his first wife, Catherine Nicholson married William Uzzell Wakefield. William was the son of Robert Wakefield and his wife, Elizabeth Cowan. This Elizabeth is a complete mystery and do not know if she had any connection with the other Cowans or not. William Uzzell Wakefield was born in PA. according to census records and his father Robert states in his application for land grant in Texas, that he was a native of New Jersey! Sarah E. Cowan, born ca. 1822 (Alabama?); married Thomas A. Lewis, 4 Oct 1840 Franklin Co., TN. In 1850 family was in Rutherford Co TN; 1860 in Lincoln Co., TN. Would like to know who her parents were. I believe she died about 1890. Bob, in northern Calif.
