    3. I recently acquired a transcript of all the graves in the Old Kirkyard, Wigtown, Wigtownshire, Scotland. This one caught my eye because it connects to a COWAN who immigrated to the U.S. Knowing that many of you are researching in the U.S., perhaps this may be of some help: Monument Inscription 67 "Erected by Agnes COWAN & Margaret McDOWALL in memory of their mother Rosana THOMPSON relict of John COWAN, late in Blairs, Parish of Kirkmabrick, who died 11th Jany 1831 aged 64 years Also their brother John T. 2. Carolyn Bruce
    3. Am helping a friend search for his ancestress whose name is apparently not recorded anywhere! She was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier John WHITE of Bertie County, NC, and she married Lewis COWAND. Neither saw fit to mention her by name in any documents we have found, so far. John White's Will, dated 1834 clearly references his son-in-law Lewis COWAND and Lewis' son Dempsey COWAN, but not Lewis' wife, at least by name. Would appreciate any help you can give him. 1. Cowan Graves - McDonough, Georgia
    2. Laura Cowan Cooper
    3. From one of my good friends, I think that he stops at every cemetery that he happens to see. He finds more Cowan's than I do and he always sends them to me to share with the list. Hope that this helps someone - let me know if you connect since I have some really good cemetery pictures that I will be glad to share. <snip> This is from a small graveyard about a mile from McDonough, Georgia on Kellytown Road. The first graves I came upon were a grouping of Cowans. I took photos and will attempt to send them when I return to Alabama tonight. The most recent were a James L. & Ida Estelle Cowan both born in 1912. James died in 1985 and Ida in 1993. Th oldest were what might be three brothers Wm. Howard Cowan b. 1896-1968, Ralph C. Cowan b. 1916-1979 and Sam T. Cowan, Jr. b-1916-1978. Also their parents Samuel Travis Cowan b. 1870-1967 and Louellen Chaffin Cowan (Sam'swife) Some other names were Chaffin, Kelly and Walker. There was a Thomas Cook of Georgia who was a Revolutionary War soldier (Captain) with the NC militia. <snip> Let me know if this means anything to any one on the list. Laura Cowan Cooper

    1. JOHN COWAN FINALLY HAS A WIFE???? ONE MORE NOTE!!!
    2. KAREN THOMAS
    3. Finally, today I found a will in the Abstracts of Lancaster County, PA, Wills 1729-1819 indexed by Betty Lynn. The will is from "Henry Skyles, Leacock Twp, February 10, 1749 (not proved): Wife: Catharine Skyler (as spelled in this document but it is probably misspelled and should be Skyles). Children: John, William, Henry, Peter, Billy, Elizabeth, Catharine and Ann (Dobbins who married James Dobbins). Ex.: John Cowen and John Williamson. So now I have THREE pieces to the puzzle--the Will above, the posting of a fellow Skiles/Skyles researcher, the date of Catharine's death in 1779 BEFORE the death of John Cowen in 1788, leaving his children orphaned. The fourth part of this puzzle is Joseph Skiles Cowan's middle name--probably his mother's maiden name. Now I'm going to tear into Leacock County, Pennsylvania and look for a marriage between John Cowen and Catharine Skiles or Catherine Skyles. Gotta find that missing marriage bann, bond or license in Leacock County, Pennsylvania..
