How do you pronounce COVEY As a Covey, I have fought a life long battle for the long O sound. Like in Cove, an inlet or bay. I have met 4 of 5 other Covey's, not in my family. and all but one used the long O pronunciation. Steven Covey, the author and Richard Covey the astronaut, seen to use the short o sound. Like in covey, a group of partridge. My brother who has a job in which he deals a great deal with the public uses the short o Covey in business and the long O Covey in his personal life. It is just easier that way. Covey Hill town in Canada and Covey Hill Roads in Canada and Chittenden County, Vermont are refereed to by the long O pronunciation. I was wondering this when looking up possible name variants. I heard the name Cooley used on an English TV show and it sounded just like Covey (Long O). If I had not seen the name written on a piece of paper in the show, I would not have known that the name was COOLEY. With many early Covey's signing their X, could some of them, have been pinned to another tree. So what is the consensus long O or short o.
