The original headstone, which no longer stands or can be found, stated - Hannah, wife of A. Carley, Jan. 15, 1846. Any written documentation that would have been recorded by Cook County was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The Cadys arrived in Cook County in 1837 but it is unknown whether Hannah came with them or arrived by other family members - there were several siblings and cousins who eventually appeared in Palatine - so as yet, I have not direct records of that. In the documents related to Hannah's filing for widow's benefits - in 1835 she stated she was over 85, in 1840 she stated she was over 90 - so her time of birth would have had to be in 1750. I think she may have been in reality - Malissa (Ma'ssa) as her oldest daughter and first born was also named Malissa and the name is also carried by many of her grandchildren. Her second daughter was named Hannah, another name carried by grandchildren. This make me think that her middle name was Hannah and that she used it instead of Malissa. The fly in the ointment is that none of James Hope, Jr. and Mary Lamphere Covey's family lists show a daughter born in 1750, so if you can find her, I would be very grateful. To my knowlege, Joseph Covey is the only Covey to have lived in Willets and the name and place of residence are clearly those of him. By family speak, there were lots of twins born in the family - Could she have been a twin of Joseph? - he is the one said to have been born in 1750 --- Any light you can shed would be appreciated. Judy You are not related to the Johnson/Washburns by any chance, are you?
