I think that a lot of folks referred to the descendants of Samuel Covey, Sr as French-Canadian, simply because they lived in Quebec. One or two did marry into French lines, and at least one grandson married in the Catholic church and it is likey there were children baptised there ( I haven't checked yet - I only own Protestant records). I have heard some descendants pronounce the name CO-vey, with the long O sound, and others Cuvey, with the short U sound. I use Cuvey, but I generally pronounce everything incorrectly :) It's likely that most folks out there researching COVEY in the areas of New England and NY, stem from the huge COVEY family of RI and CT. I've never seen any indication that any of the COVEYs were actually French. At 04:49 PM 2/2/98 EST, you wrote: >I have a question. I was always told that my Covey family was French >Canadian.
