    1. Samuel COVEY Descendants
    2. Pam or Christian Waugh
    3. I have uploaded the 3rd generation as I have it in my database currently. Please excuse the formatting errors in the HTML...will try to get those corrected soon. In the meantime, please compare content with you have on these lines and update me with corrections and additions. Looking forward to having this site verified and corrected. I know there are a lot of you on this list that are Samuel descendants --- no hiding, please! My records are far from complete, and so many of my earlier notes are buried somewhere in what we humbly call our garage. Pam

    1. French-English
    2. Hello I want to thank those of you that gave me a little more insight into the French-English question. Some of you I have been in contact with. Those that I have not written to personally, I want you to know how pleased I was with the input. Now does anyone have any information on this family group? Luther H. Covey b. Oct. 30, 1804 m. 1. Desc of Samuel COVEY, SR (c1755-1822)
    2. Pam or Christian Waugh
    3. Well, it's hardly finished, but I did want you descendants of Samuel COVEY that I have at least the first 2 generations of his line out there: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/3500/covey1.html I just realized that I didn't add titles to appear within Netscape, but I will do that for both the 1st generation and 2nd tomorrow. I shall try to get the 3rd generation out there tomorrow or Wed. I REALLY want you folks to read over the material at the Geocities site. This is where I want the first few generations to be ironed out. I also made a sorry attempt by using the Ultimate Family Tree Program and the "ready-made" web-site feature. It's there, but not anything close to what I would like. While I realize I can change the background, formatting, etc., I want it to include notes on the individuals. So far, I haven't read where I can do that. http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/PamWoodWaugh/COVEY/index.htm I will likely delete this site soon, but you are welcome to visit. I have also updated the database somewhat since then. Comments, good or bad, are encouraged and welcomed!!! Pam

    2. Hi List, I want to apologize for any problems my attachments may have caused. I am somewhat of computer novice and didn't know the attachments would cause anyone any problems. I apologize again, I was just trying to be a "good neighbor". Larry

    3. I think that a lot of folks referred to the descendants of Samuel Covey, Sr as French-Canadian, simply because they lived in Quebec. One or two did marry into French lines, and at least one grandson married in the Catholic church and it is likey there were children baptised there ( I haven't checked yet - I only own Protestant records). I have heard some descendants pronounce the name CO-vey, with the long O sound, and others Cuvey, with the short U sound. I use Cuvey, but I generally pronounce everything incorrectly :) It's likely that most folks out there researching COVEY in the areas of New England and NY, stem from the huge COVEY family of RI and CT. I've never seen any indication that any of the COVEYs were actually French. At 04:49 PM 2/2/98 EST, you wrote: >I have a question. I was always told that my Covey family was French >Canadian. 1. Attachments to List
    2. Pam or Christian Waugh
    3. Hi folks, I have been contacted by several of you are having problems retrieving attachments being sent to the list. I understand this can be troublesome, especially if you have a slower modem, and are paying for your access time by the hour. Most lists do discourage attachments, and I have no problem in requesting same for this list. We can always follow the policy to say we have a photo of such-and-such and if you are interested let me know, and I'll send it, etc. No one wants to upset anyone here. We all have a common interest, even though at this point, we may not share the same line, we are all interested in some COVEY, somewhere. Who knows? So-and-so COVEY of VA may connect with And-yet-another COVEY of NY at the very next turn of a page in some Bible buried in a attic in MO. Right? The idea is to keep posting queries and info. I will ask we refrain from posting attachments in the future unless solicited on an individual basis. BTW, I haven't given up on the Sam COVEY site...having a problem finding a program that deals well enough with superscripts et that doesn what I want. 2. I have a question. I was always told that my Covey family was French Canadian. How many of you out there are of French ancestry? Do you pronounce the name the same as a covey of birds or like a cove (like in inlet)? If the name is French, how would it have been spelled originally? Thank You, Sue

    1. Re: COVEY decendants - the NEXT GENERATION!
    2. Pam or Christian Waugh
    3. Patti - Many thanks...it will take time to digest and enter it all. When I replied to your message I also sent one to Larry...and it was returned. I have just resent it - about an hour ago, as when I sent him a test message, he rec'd that one, and didn't realize he was having a problem receiving. I am also sending this to teh list, so if others need this info, they can get it, and this will include Larry. BTW, in what records did you find that Samuel had 3 wives, and that the 3rd was blind and an Indian? The Indian background has been pretty prominent through all lines, but have never had anything "in writing", or a name to go along with it.Since Susanna was his last wife, I would assume this be her, but I'm not sure. We know that at least one wife had to have been a YARNES or YEARNS, but don't know which one, and what her first name was. The name YEARNS was carried down through the family for generations, through both male and female lines. The YEARNS research is another whole can of worms. There are one or two lines which left NY and hit Ontario and PA, which hold possibilities to be connected to Sam's wife. I dropped working on it about 1 1/2 - 2 yrs ago, and haven't gone back. They are VERY elusive! I think I have mentioned to many of Sam's descendants that there was an Elizabeth COVEY who died in 1777, while living with other Royalists being housed at places like St Therese, Montreal, etc. This record was mentioned amongst records concerning other families who settled finally at Caldwell's Manor, so I find it pretty strong circumstance that a COVEY be mentioned. I think this is likely his first wife, and mother to at least Samuel Jr. Comments on this? Do you think one of us could have the wrong name, and how can we check it? It is only a guess but I think the child born in 1899 would be Dorothy COVEY. Dorothy is listed just before Hazel in my records and the child before Dorothy was born in 1896. According to my Old Disease Dictionary, [anasarca] is Generalized massive dropsy, probably congestive heart failure. Hope this helps and if anyone finds any errors, omissions that they can fill, etc., etc. please post them to the COVEY list. My plea is, as always, please POST TO OUR LIST!!! Alyce got this information through years (20+) of researching LDS microfilms, family bibles, vital records in VT-NY- Canada, interviews with her mother & many other relatives, papers found in Susan COVEYs trunk, etc and etc. This body of work, (which is considerable) ,was graciously given to me for the promise that I would try to carry on her beloved project. She could no longer do research because of failing health and the lack of a desire to learn computer skills, (at her age). I do my best, but it is very difficult to do research from a wheelchair as most places where records are kept are not wheelchair accessible and do not take kindly to postal inquires. For these reasons, I use the list considerable, depend on the noted kindness of others working on their lineage and depend my friend, the computer. Pam, the above information on George & Almeda MILLER, in its totality, is probably more than you needed but thought anything added might help others. If anyone finds any errors or inconsistencies, or differences from your research, let me know. I have MORRISON data but havent correlated mine with yours yet, when I do Ill send all. Pam, I know I still need to send Jennie Minnie(COVEY) COVEYs stats. Remember people, the COVEY list, [ COVEY-L@rootsweb.com ], is OUR list, please help yourselves, Pam and me; POST TO THE LIST!! 3. After reading the obits you sent (the photos you sent were great, BTW), I agree that Otis had to have been son of William and Susan. I apologize. I jumped to the wrong conclusion from that census record. From the late death date for Susan COVEY COVEY, it seems like it "should" be easy to obtain info on her parents from a death record, IF, one of her children knew it to tell the authorities. I am very intrigued about the possibilities here. Do you happen to know which dau of William COVEY and Fanny Adelia WELLS married George MILLER? I keep coming across odds and ends on these families as I dig through my notes. I have one note from Mooers Forks that says on 18 jan 1892 Cora Mildred MORRISON was b. to Florian MORRISON (must be Floyd), age 24, farmer, b. Mooers & Emogene COVEY MORRISON, mother, age 21, b. Mooers, having two previous children, 3 in all. Another with 2 July 1896, Thomas Atkinson, aged 79 of Franklin County, b. Lancestershire Co, England to Leo ATKINSON & Elinor BROWN (his 3rd marr), and Mary Ann MORRISON (her 2nd marriage), aged 46 b. Franklin County to John COVEY and Roxana HUNTER, by J.W. Hoyt. 6 May 1903 Hazel M. COVEY b. to Elmira and James COVEY 15 Mar 1899 _____ COVEY, born to James COVEY aged 37, b. Canada and Elmira, aged 39, b. VT, having 6 prev children, with 5 alive. 14 Dec 1908 death of James COVEY age 45 s/o John COVEY and Roxanna HUNTER - cause: anasarca (?), buried in Ellenburg. 3. I apologize! After sending my last e-mail I found my 1900 census entries for 1900 Mooers. Otis is definitely listed for William and Phoebe COVEY, married 16 yrs in 1900, and he was born March 1883, and he died 26 Jul 1905 at Clinton Mills after being kicked in the head by a horse. Could he possibly be living there, but child of William and Susan? Phoebe, his mother, if the 1900 census is correct, would have been about 14 when Otis was born. Is her b'date of June 1869 correct? ******************************************************** Pam Wood Waugh moodies@magicnet.net 730 Dunhill Dr or waughp@ocps.k12.fl.us Orlando, FL 32825 Visit my Eastern Township Research site: http://www.magicnet.net/~moodies/et2.html Visit my Family Lines: http://www.magicnet.net/~moodies

    3. Anyone out there with quick access to 1900 census Mooers, Clinton County, NY? I have in my notes that Otis, Edna, Melissa, Delia P., Laura and Wesley were listed in the household of William Henry COVEY and wife Phoebe ? in that census. I may have made a mistake, but I can't find my transcribed notes for 1900 census...(been lookin', believe me). As another question --- could Phoebe BODDEE, be BODAH, or some other spelling? It seems that one Joseph BODAH (beaudin), Jr. married a Sarah LONGEWAY, d/o Joseph LONGEWAY and Deborah COVEY, as well as an Angeline BODAH m. a john LONGEWAY (also ch of Joseph LONGEWAY and Deb COVEY). I have never searched for this name in Clinton County, NY, where it seems these folks lived. Perhaps Phoebe was a desc of this Joseph BODAH? Well, anyway, the tree continues to grow. My husband will be out of town next week, so maybe I will find the needed time to put out there on the web the first few genearations. Just trying to get them as accurate as possible now, and looking over my old lines, there are MANY questions! Pam >I also checked Otis COVEY again. I show his dob as 17 Nov 1883 in Ellenburg, Clinton Co., NY and his date of death as 25 July 1905. I show him as a >son of William & Susan COVEY.
