While searching in the National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (http://lcweb.loc.gov/coll/nucmc/) I found these three sets of Covey papers - one in a library in Richmond, VA, one in Charlottesville, VA, and one (Silas Covey) in Oneida, NY. Is there anyone out there who can do a library visit? These things probably haven't seen daylight in a while! Please let me know what you find. Title: Covey family Bible record, 1856-1941. Sorry folks - I forgot to mention that the printing feature is not very obvious: Once you have filled in the surname you are looking for (first names not required), you click on the "genealogical search" button to get to the screen with the land grant information. At the bottom of that screen is a hotlink that reads "View the document" - clicking here will actually get you to a decision dialog box asking if you want to view it or save it to disk (at least that's how Windows95 does it). Save to disk and view/edit/print from your graphics program later. Hope that helps - it really is a great place to visit. Regards, Asa K. List: Practically everyone on this list if faced with this same problem. Maybe...just maybe the answer is hidden out there somewhere. I, along with the most of the list, would like to know as much as possible about Big Mama and Big Daddy. A great deal is known of James, somewhat less about William and just that John was around somewhere. Any small amount of information will be greatly appreciated. The following Coveys are listed as buried in the Spencer's Corners Burying Ground, town of Northeast, Dutchess Co., NY: Alvin Covey d. 8 Dec 1850, age 65 Benjamin Covey d. 21 Aug 1838, age 87 Chloe, wife of Joshua D. Covey, d. 4 April 1831, age 38 Rhoda Covey, consort of Benjamin, d. 12 May 1805, age 52 Sally Covey, d/o Benjamin and Rhoda, d. 8 June 1806, age 84 mos., 20 days. Salome E. Covey d. 12 Nov 1843, age 28 Found an obit for Rhoda above in "NOtices of Marriages & Deaths Published in Newspapers at Poughkeepsie, NY 1778-1825": >From the "Political Barometer" of Tuesday, 18 June 1805 - On the 12th ult. Rhoda, wife of Benjamin Covey of Gallatin, county of Columbia, in the 52nd year of her age. Survived by husband and 10 children. Has anyone seen 10 children listed for Benjamin and Rhoda? Most lists that I have seen show only 9 children - which means there could be another daughter Cornelia b. 5 Aug 1795 in Mass (Benjamin & Rhoda also lived at Mt. Washington, MA), m. June 1812 @ Hillsdale Columbia Co. to Stephen Doty and removed to Oswego Co., NY with Luther and Benjamin Covey both sons of Benjamin and Rhoda! Susan Valis JVAP52C@prodigy.com
The Bureau of Land Management has put all of its land grant info online for about 10 eastern states - MI, OH, IN, WI, AR, MI, LA, MN, etc. The URL is: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov Whats great is, not only can you search for your relatives who helped pioneer these states, but if you find one you can actually print out a terrific scanned copy of the deed from the government, complete with the signature of the US President of the time (actually only through Andrew Jackson - from my cousin Martin Van Buren onward, other people actually did the signing). Check this out! I found lots of Coveys, but have not identified most of them. A suggestion: if you locate and identify a Covey, how about sending me the information - I've got a master list of the Coveys from each of the land grant sites - I'll compile a master copy and share it back to the list periodically. Any takers? Regards, Asa K. Gage (asak@aol.com) Searching for GAGE, COVEY, MESICK, KITTELL - All States and Eras; SHARP(E) in NY only.
Found these items in Dutchess Co. court records. Here are a few tidbits of info I received from another Covey researcher, Fred Sherwood. As reported to be said by a son of Robert Crandall Covey: Ebenezer Sr came from Hartford, CT and was the son of Elisha and Elizabeth Covey. More info: Ebenezer Covey b. 30 July 1790 in Rensselaer Co., NY; d. 13 May 1871 at Falls Twp., Wyoming Co; m. 22 Nov 1812 Lydia Elizabeth Ross b. 30 Nov 1793 at Kingston, Luzerne Co; d. 2 Apr 1858 at Falls Twp; d/o William Ross and Betsey Osborn. They [Ebenezer and Lydia] are bur. at Fairview Cem. in Overfield Twp. More info: Elisha Covey Jr b. 25 Apr 1770; probably d. before 1800; m. Elizabeth Mott b. 2 Jan 1770, d/o Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Braman) Mott. Ebenezer Mott b. 19 Aug 1735 RI; d. 23 Mar 1829. Elizabeth Braman b. 31 Dec 1739 RI; d. 23 Aug 1806. Res. CT, Sullivan Co, NY, Rensselaer Co., NY. I have these names as the children of Ebenezer Covey and Lydia Ross of Luzerne and Wyoming Co's PA: Clarissa, Almeron/Almerson, Ebenezer, William, Vincent, Lewis, Mary Ann, Delight, and Elizabeth. {This is not necessarily in the order of their birth} Hope some of this info helps others and we can do some exchanging of facts regarding this Covey line in PA. Denise
Hello - this is my first posting. My ancestor, Ebenezer Covey (1790-1871) lived @1820 in Luzerne Co PA with his wife Lydia ROSS and their family. They also lived in Wyoming Co PA. He was the son of an Elisha Covey and Elizabeth MOTT. They lived in Hartford CT and Rensselaer Co NY. I need info on this line and sources. Would love to connect with others working on this line or anyone with reliable information. Thanks! Denise Sallee
Hi All: Does anyone out there know anything about JOHN COVEY. The brothers JOHN, James and William were suppoosed to have arrived in the new world in the year 1639/1640, All these years later everyone talks about James and a few talk about William. Not a single person talks about JOHN. While my direct line goes to William, my tree looks thin around there and needs to bush out a bit to make it look better. Any self respecting genealogist can't stand for anything like that. Thanks, Billy Charles Covey (Bill) Fort Smith, Arkansas
I'm looking for cousins of my mother. This Covey family is from the Gravette, Arkansas area. My mother is Myrene Page (Williams) Parker. Her cousins are twins, June and Jean Covey. I don't know their last names now but if anyone knows of their whereabouts I understand that they did research on the Covey family for something called Daughters of the Revolution or something like that. Thanks for any help. It would be appreciated. Kathy Isom AJMom@aol.com
I am starting a geneology search on my family. My great-greatgrandfather was John Henry Dean Covey, born May 5, 1856 and Dier March 12, 1915. He had a son named Melvin, my greatgrandfather and a daughter named Anna Covey, my grandmother. I am interested in getting as much information on this family as possible. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks, Kathy Isom
Hi All: While I am looking for COVEY information in general, I am now concentrating on the COVEY families of, and descended from, the families around Godalming, Dunsfold, Alfold, Guildford, Hawyards Heath and other towns and villages in and around the Sussex/Surrey border. Thanks, Bill Covey
My name is not Covey, but I am descended from James Couvey b. ca 1615 England. Good Afternoon: I'm looking to corespond with anyone out there that is interested in anyone with the COVEY name regardless of where they are or are from. I have a great deal of information stretching from the United States to Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Hi: While this may, or may not, be correct information, it is commonly believed to be true: "James COUVE with his wife Mary and brothers John and William arrived in Braintree, Mass, from England, in 1639......." There is a ton on information on James, somewhat less on William, and I have absolutely nothing on John. I would be interested in any "JOHN" information that is out there. William is my direct line but it would be nice to make the tree fatter at the top. Thanks, Bill Covey Fort Smith, Arkansas billcovey@worldnet.att.net
Good Morning (Perhaps Afternoon: Are there any people out there that are familiar with the Sussex/Surrey border Coveys in England. I am particularly interested in The Wadey Covey connections. If you don't have information on Wadey, I will settle for just any old Covey including those that left Dunsfold, Godalming, etc and went to Australia.
