    3. I guess I am terribly interested in the connection between the Joseph COVEY who we know to have started off (Record-wise anyway) in Chesterfield, NH records and the Samuel COVEY and wife Mary who had a son, Samuel, recorded at Chesterfield b. 1773 in Randall's book, dated 1882. I mean, we desc of Sam COVEY, Sr (c1755) are looking for a Sam COVEY and whatever wife, who had firstborn son, Samuel Jr, anywhere from 1772 to about 1775. The 1860 (I think) census indicates that Sam Jr was born 1772. I have always wondered about the proximity between Joseph COVEY of Windham County and our Samuel of Caldwell's Manor/Alburgh. Guaranteed, I have nothing that points to our Samuel being in NH. His Memorial indicates he went from the Fort Anne area of (now) Washington County, NY to St. Therese, Quebec where he was housed for a time as a Royalist/Loyalist, and then on to Noyan-Caldwell's Manor. BUT -- who is this Sam COVEY and wife Mary in NH???? And, -- he had a son born 1773 names Samuel. Where did this person go? Has anyone checked land records for that area? I'm sure they have been scoured, but I would like to know. Also -- many years ago I came across a page within New Hampshire Grants somewhere (believe me, don't remember the source, and have spent the better part of several days trying to find my photocopies some months ago). Does anyone have copies of anything that list -- 3 COVEY names as petitionaers on a NH Grant application? Anyone with either Joseph COVEY roots or Samuel COVEY roots, please jump in here! 2. Denise Sallee I am interested in the Covey's of Rensselaer co NY. My COVEY married a VAN CURLER Your dated coinside with mine. I have other relatives all over Rensselaer, Washington, and Columbia. My COVEY's were born in Bennington Co., VT maybe we can connect. I think these COVEY'S came from NY instead of NH. 3. Hi Denise According to the NYGEN site there http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyclinto/ there were no Covey's listed in either the 1800 or 1810 census. 2. Hello, I think this Sylvester was listed as a deserter. He would probably be mine. (Smile) I have a younger Sylvester b in Stanstead in 1841. Sylvester is the son of James Covey allegedly b in 1810, but who knows. My family members seem to jump back and forth between first and middle names, so I'm not even sure of the name any more. Sue

    3. Many thanks to Scott! This is an interesting database, and certainly will be an asset to some of our COVEY researchers, even if it doesn't help with COVEY ;-) My question is - to all out there - does this Sylvester COVEY fit in to anyone's line? The record says he was born in Plainfield, NH about 1813. Whose line does he fit into?? 3. Thank You, It helps a lot. Bear with me as I am a rank amateur here. I didn't check all the spelling variations when I was looking at the 1790 Census. I missed Coovey! I have him in 1800 though at Johnson's Gore. I also have a second, Joseph Covey, at Windham in Windham County, as a single male 16-26. Windham is over the mountains and down the river so to speak. It's a long long way from Alburg. Very different naming patterns between Joseph and Samuel. On Samuel's side I don't think there are any David Joseph Theodore Theodosia Levi Azal Lyman Ransom or Saphroha names. They must have been distant cousins. Samuel's line has a set of names that tend to repeat. Is that so with Jeseph? I see Theodore and Theodosia are from their mother's side. There is a common Samuel though. I had Johnson's Gore in the wrong county, however I am sure that Crosburg was in Franklin county. So who is this Ebenezer Covy? Is he of Samuel Covey of Alburg of perhaps the Nathan Covey family? -----Original Message----- From: A. 1. Fw: 1790 Vermont census data.
    2. Chris Covey
    3. Samuel Covey is listed, in the 1790 US Census of Vermont, as living in Alburg with a house hold of: Himself being over 16 years of age. His wife (presumably, wives were counted in the 'any female' category) Two other males over 16 years of age Two other females The only other Covey in the state was Nathan Covey (2 2 2 .) of Bristol which is 80-90 miles from Alburg In the 1800 Vermont Census Samuel is listed with a house hold of 16 comprising of: Himself being over 45 years of age His wife (presumably again) being between the age of 26 and 45 2 other males 10 to 16 3 other males 16 to 26 4 other males under 10 years of age 2 other females 10 to 16 3 other females under 10 years of age The 2 other "over 16 males" (Samuel Jr & ?????) from the 1790 census are not counted in 1800 The Nathan Covey family of Bristol is not listed in 1800 But there is a new Covey family in the northern part of the state Joseph Covey of Johnson's Gore County of Franklin with a family of 11 including 3 males 10-26 years of age. In the 1810 Vermont Census (index only) Samuel is listed with a house hold in Alburg Samuel Jr. is also listed with a house hold in Alburg (I haven't found any local microfiche for 1810 so it is Head of house hold only at this point) There is also a Ebenezer Covy as head of household in Crosburg Franklin County. My question is this. Is Ebenezer Covy a missing son of Samuel Covey? Is he the other over 16 male in the 1790 census? Or is he from the Joseph Covey family of Johnson's Gore? Grand Isle is adjacent to Franklin County. Neither Johnson's Gore or Crosburg exist today. Johnson's Gore is not Johnson in Lamoile county. Ebenezer is not listed in 1830. 3. This was posted on the Roots-L list by "Will Pratt" <prattw@pioneer.nevada.edu>. Obviously nothing further is needed to be said until the grand announcement later in the year. The following is a summary of information from various sources. The site in question was not intended for public access, but is a beta test site, to test the site structure with moderate traffic, as had previously been announced. It is open only to selected beta testers who have been given passwords. Somehow, a way in was left unprotected, discovered, and published. The result was a flood of accesses, which the low capacity server being used for the test wasn't designed to handle. The access loophole was finally protected, but as I understand it, the server went down. I suspect it'll be more carefully protected when it goes up again. After a beta test period, which will end 28 March, the site will be shut down and its performance evaluated. After any necessary changes have been made, it will be put up again, on a much more robust server, probably sometime this summer. The final product will be open without passwords, to anyone. To the person who said that it was their last hope to find information on a relative: everything that will be on the site is already available at any Family History Center, although not always as conveniently. (E.g., the only way presently to make an author searchof the FHLC is on the microfiche version.) -- Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA) kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net "Genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap" http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm ICQ World-Wide-Pager address http://wwp.mirabilis.com/17663458 -- Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA) kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net "Genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap" http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm ICQ World-Wide-Pager address http://wwp.mirabilis.com/17663458
