    3. Hi, Sherry - There was apparently more than one COVEY line on the MD Eastern Shore (in any case we haven't found a connecting ancestor - *yet*). My family settled in Talbot County, starting w/ Henry COVEY & wife Eleanor _____ (widow of Samuel EDMONDSON). I have a lot of information about Henry & Eleanor's descendants - what part of MD did your husband come from? If you can let me know who his parents (maybe grandparents, as well?) were, I'll see if we can find a connection. Incidentally, we have a summer house in Rehoboth, DE. Small world, huh? 3. Att: Linda My ancestors Alpheus Covey, b. 1802/1804 in NY and wife Paulina Crandall were in Washington Twp., Richland Co., Ohio for 1830 Census. Two middle children born there in C1830 & 1832. Family left for Missouri about 1837. Alpheus died 1842 in Clark Co., MO. Could the Coveys you mentioned in Washington Co., OH be related to my Covey?? Have not found parents of Alpheus, although one researcher thought father was Alpheus who was in Rensselaer Co., NY. Carol Eliasof

    3. Hi list, I'm of the MD COVEYS. This is my line and I need help. I Matthew COVEY d: 1784, Caro. Co names 9 children in his will, no wife mentioned II William COVEY b: c1748 in Dor Co d: 1838, Maury Co TN m: Rebecca FLEMING in NY ? What County? Why was he in NY. ? III Noble COVEY b: c1668, Dor Co d: 1848, Lee Co VA m: 1793 in Guilford Co NC Mary DOUGHERTY I have a copy of a William COVEY's will 1713, he names his son William and refers to the others as "my children" mentions two minor sons. If this is the f/o Matthew d: 1784 he was having children kinda late in life which is possible with a younger wife, maybe a second or third marriage. Where were these COVEYs prior to coming to MD? In 1655 Francis COVEY was transported to Charles City County, VA by Howell Pryse 1669 Thomas COVEY was mentioned in a will at St Mary's Co. MD 1676 Samuel Covey in Kent Co. MD 1688 Richard COVEY bought land in Somerset Co MD Are these men of the same family? Any and all help appreciated. Thanks for bearing with me. Jo

After I aquired the books in a book store in Indiana, I contacted Mary Quist who lived close by in Santa Ana CA. She expressed suprise that I was able to find them since there weren't many printed and she thought they were all accounted for (mine were new, not used and I paid $40 for the set - way under what she had charged). I got the impressed she thought there was something very suspicious about my having them, and she was not at all forthcoming on further data. A few years later I tried to call her again. Long story short, she had died in the meantime, and I tried to track her sons through the LDS (she was Morman) and got no response. I used a proper LDS form to find out about them, and I was ultimately told that if they had info they would respond, but if no response, it meant no info. So, the family is a dead end. William would be my Wm born 1765 died 1845, and married to 1) Esther Yarns, 2) Betsey Coon (mine), and 3) Nancy Smith. The names Hope and Kingsberry prove there is *some* connection with the descendants of the 1640 immigrant, but just exactly who are these people? Since William's first son wasn't born until 1797, then these names have to be his contemporaries or elders. Are they brothers? uncles? cousins? Who is Daniel? The only Daniels in the Quist book are all born after this time period. And of course, which John, which Hope, which Joseph, which Kingsberry? I suspect the latter 3 are the sons of James & Mary (Lanphere) Covey, but where do Daniel and John fit in, and how does William fit in with the rest? Covey Entries in the day Book for the store of William Musson in the town of Butternuts, Otsego County NY (Day Book covers 7 May 1802 2 23 Feb 1803) The original book is at the public library in Butternuts, in the basement genealogy collection. The book can be looked at, but copies only from the typed extract. Spellings are as in the typed extracts. To clarify the difference between an entry being actually 1/2 versus half, when there is a fraction, I've put the fraction in [brackets]. Example for Joseph, that is one and a half yards of callico and 8/four and a half. Okay -- found a few more desc of Sam COVEY straying over to MA in 1900: Pittsfield , Berkshire Co, MA ED 63, sheet 11 - 9 Graylock Ave Covey, John Feb 1868 32 NY Ca NY Melissa Jul 1870 29 NY NY Ca (forgot other info here) Fannie M. Nov 1889 10 MA NY NY Ethel Sep 1896 3 Ny NY NY This would be John Russell COVEY b. 12 Feb 1868 s/o William COVEY and Adelia WELLS and his wife Melissa Harriett VOSBURGH. ED 63, sheet 10 - 398 Lenox Ave. Covey, Rufus May 1876 24 NY CA NY (married 4 yrs) Jennie Mar 1879 21 NY CA NY mother of 2 ch, 1 living) Ramond Jan 1899 1 Ca NY NY (entered US 1899, alien) This would be Rufus Melvin COVEY, b. 3 May 1876 s/o William COVEY & Adelia WELLS, and his wife Jennie Minnie COVEY. Raymond Rufus COVEY, b. 29 Jan 1899. Appears that their dau Alice Adelle COVEY, b. 28 Aug 1897 died before 1900. Also -- John COVEY, b. c1853 s/o Gilbert Yearns COVEY (b. 1817) and wf Julie CAYEZ/CAYER appears to have died before 1900 or left his family. John married Della BOLAND before 1889 and they moved to MA. Only known son that I had was Gilbert b. ca 1891. Appears that in 1900, at the "orphan asylum" at 183 Maple St in Lawrence, Essex Co, MA there were Arthur COVEY b. c1889, ae 11; Gilbert, b. c1891, ae 9 and Ernie/Emir?? COVEY, b. ca 1893, ae 7 yrs. There was a little girl, Nora COVEY, b. May 1896, ae 4, th eadopted dau, living with Adolph BOLAND at 209 Broadway St in Lawrence. It woul dseem that Della BOLAND died in childbirth with Nora in 1896, or shortly thereafter, and Della's parents took in the infant, and the three boys were left at an orphanage. More research is needed to find info on the other two sons, Arthur and Ernie/Emir [or perhaps Emile].....
