Surnames: Covey, Hitchcock, Reeves Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TKQ.2ACIB/442.450 Message Board Post: I have family connections with the Hitchcock-Covey line and I'm having trouble making some pieces fit. Here's what I have: William T. Hitchcock (b. c1809 in W. Canada) m. Elizabeth ?? (b. c1830 in AR?) Children: William W. (b. c1855 AR); Francis D (probably changed his name to COVEY; b. c1858 in TX?); Watherine?? (b. c1860 in TX); Elizabeth (b. c1863 in TX); Joseph (b. c1866 in TX), Martha (b. c1867 in TX). My line comes down through Francis (Frank) who apparently changed his surname to Covey before the 1900 census, which lists him and his family under COVEY; this leads me to think his mother, Elizabeth, may have been born a COVEY?). Frank Covey had a son named William Sebourn Covey (b. 1883 in TX) who married Angia Novella Reeves (Stewart, by her first marriage) in Boerne, Kendall Co., TX on 9/14/1905. They had a son named Jesse Jason Covey b. 9/20/1906 in Boerne, Kendall Co., TX, although his delayed birth certificate (filed 7/17/1944) names him Jessie Jason Stewart, s/o Wm. Stewart (her 1st husband) and A. N. Reeves. Can anyone help me with this family? Thanks in advance.
All I know was what I had stated, Hazel's Mother was Cora Fonda Filkins, born 5/21/1881 and died 9/1971 in Amsterdam, NY. I really do not know what my great grandfathers first name was. I think there is a son Irving Filkins or Irwin Filkins living in Amsterdam yet. That may have even been my great grandfathers first name. Sorry I can't help much. And thanks for the info on my Grandfather, George. I did know that was his mother and father. It is the Fonda/Filkins side of the family that I am having all the trouble locating. Thanks again......Cora

Sam COVEY Sr was not born in Alburg, VT -- he was of Washington Co, NY in the mid 1770's. More likely was born in CT. He married a Susanna, but it is felt this was his 2nd wife, as he had 19 children between 1772 and 1815. Quite a feat if one woman pulled that off. He died in Alburg, not in Huntingdon Co, QC. His son, Sam Jr had 9 children by Permelia BURR. Please visit: http://www.geocities.com/waughp/covey/index.htm Please feel free to write me at waughp@yahoo.com
Fellow listers, Here’s an appeal to all of you to pull out the copies of the SSAN application forms you already have filed away in your "stuff" and post them at Rootsweb. I just did it for the ones I have and it’s really easy. :O) 1. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ 2. Scroll down the home page to Social Security Death Index and click on it. 3. Enter the name of the person who is on the form you have into the search engine. 4. When the right entry comes up, go over to the far right and click on "Add Post-Em" link. 5. The "Fill in the blank" form will come up and you can type in the information just like it’s printed on the form you have in your hands! 6. Include all the information in the order that it is entered on the form, so that others have the advantage of all that information. NOTE: You don’t have to type in the SS Number for the person as the Rootsweb program includes it. Since the cost of these forms will be increasing substantially next week, it would be good if EVERYONE put out the information they already have. Then whoever else is searching for that same person won’t be required to pay the new price for the same form you have in your files. And vice-versa! If we all "plant seed," we’ll all get the crop! And thank Goodness for Rootsweb providing this service to all of us for FREE! Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota kbcook@cfaith.com or k.b.cook@worldnet.att.net
I just thought I would spread the word that the fees for getting a copy of a Social Security Application are going up drastically on 1 July 2001. If you apply before then you will be charged the old amount which is now $7 if you know the number, and $16.50 if you do not. The new fees are posted at: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm It appears that the increases are more than substantial, they are gigantic. This means that the time for procrastination is over. The address you need to send them to is: Social Security Administration Office of Central Records Operation Attention: Freedom of Information Workgroup PO Box 17772 300 N. Hello everyone, After reading the posts about the Covey/Yarnes line, I'm completely confused (usually nothing new). :-) I show Eunice Yarnes, born 1789 marrying Hope Covey. Silly question of the day is how do William Covey and Esther Yarnes fit in and where? Confused and blurry eyed, Sherrill
Hi everyone I am researching Russell Ray Covey Sr. born about 1788 in North Carolina. He married Rachel E. Davis 11-21-1810 in Maury County, TN. She was born about 1792 in South Carolina. They moved to Hardin County, TN sometime between 1836 and 1840. I believe he had a son named Archibald D. Covey who was born 1811 (the 1860 Hardin County, TN Census says he was born in North Carolina, but since he's right near Russell Ray Covey and R. R. is old enough to be his father, I will say Russell is his father, even though he might more likely be his Uncle). I am interested mostly in a girl listed in Archibald's household on the 1860 Census of Hardin County. Martha A. is 19 on the 1860 Census and born in Tennessee. Archibald is old enough to be her father, but the following excerpt is found in "Hardin County, TN Records: 1820-1860" by Thomas A. Hays 1 November 1847 pg. 282 Covey, Huldah- E. S. Covey appointed guardian of Jane, May, Minneford, Martha A., Robert, Sophina, and Leon Covey, minor heirs of Huldah Covey. I don't know if the Martha A. listed as a minor heir of Huldah Covey is the same as the Martha A. listed under Archibald in the 1860 Census. Since Archibald's Martha is born 1841 it's possible (if not very likely) that she could be the minor daughter of Huldah Covey and just living with her Uncle or cousin. This is my predicament. Does anyone have any information on Martha A. Covey (b. 1840), Archibald D. Covey, or Russell Ray Covey? Charles Covey arrived on the Canning in 1749 with two boys. The record does not indicate he was accompanied by a wife, or perhaps she did not survive the voyage. Early records show: "COVEY","James","M","1763-04-17",,"SJAL","Robar, Eliz",, "COVEY","James & Eliz Robar", "1764 abt","John","1764-03-15","SJAL",,,"B" "1765 abt","Charles","1765-12-08","SJAL",,,"B" "1768 abt","Sally","1768-08-07","SJAL",,,"B" "COVEY","Sally","D","1768-08-28",,"SJAL",,"Lunenburg", "COVEY","James & Anna Barbara","1769-12-02","Hannah","1769-12-20","SJAL",,,"B" "COVEY","James & Margaret", "1784-02-28","William","1784-04-24","SJAL",,,"B" "1785 abt","Dalton","1785-03-30","DRL",,,"B" "1788-05-09","Charles","1788-11-15","SJAL",,,"B" "1790-08-30","Thomas","1792-08-30","DRL",,,"B" "1792-03-30","Margaret","1792-08-30","DRL",,,"B" Other children of James and Margaret Richardson: James Thomas born 30 May 1777 baptized 4 Jul 1777 SJAL Helena Jane born 11 Feb 1779 It is assumed James is a son of Charles. What happened to the other son? It appears James married three times: the first to Elizabeth Robar who apparently died after Sally's birth in 1768; then to Anna Barbara probably early 1769 as a child born that year and she apparently died before 1777; then to Margaret Richardson before 1777 as a child born that year. Anyone have another hypothesis??????? Also an Eleanor shows up marrying in 1797 so probably born early 1780s? "COVEY","Eleanor","M","1797-12-30",,"SSAC","Fleet, Michael",, Who were Eleanor's parents? Any help getting these Coveys straightened out would be very much appreciated. Regards, Betty
