Linda: I think my Covey line is connected to the people you mention, but have found no proof. My ancestor, Alpheus Covey, was b. 1802/1804 in Rensselaer Co., NY. He married Paulina Crandall abt 1823 probably NY. My Alpheus died 1842 in Clark Co., MO. Alpheus and Paulina had the following children: George Washington b.1824 in NY (he went OR), Freelove b. C1830 in Ohio (she died young), Uriah b.1832 in Ohio (he went CA), & Elizabeth b. 1841 in MO (she stayed in MO & married John Unger) I suspect that the father of my Alpheus Covey was the Alpheus Covey who was in Rennselaer Co, NY for 1800, 1810, & 1820 censuses. He was in Pittstown, NY for the last two censuses. There was a William Covey who served in Rev. War, and he named son Alpheus, but child died young. Perhaps related to mine?? If you have anyone named Alpheus on your line, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Carol E.

I descend from Lucius Covey(#2 below) through his oldest son Henry William Covey b. 1831 in NY. I was on a website the other day regarding ACADIANS...there was a list of some of the French names and what they became in English ---- Couey became Covey, Cowey, Cooey, and Coowie when Anglicized.... I am looking for information on a Almon Covey b. in VT about 1809, then went to Cayuaga Co NY and finally to Kalamazoo, Michigan by 1839 and why there are two SLIVER children living in his home by the 1870 census.... But does put a damper in connecting to the Mass. line. 1680s Somerset Co., Md. we know that William Covey who died 1713 Dorchester Co. was there. Records show that there was a Richard Covey also in the area. Also, William had a son, Richard born abt. 1695 died 1757 in Dorchester Co. He had a son, Richard, Jr. who went into Talbot Co. This family and the Caulk family are found in several transaction as well in the same military company. From what I've been able to find, the Henry and Allen in Talbot Co. were brothers and should be Richard's. I know Richard and wife both died young with small children still at home. Any help, appreciated. wes

I to have the research broken down into two lines. Canada is a puzzle. Believe part of the Coveys from the Mass. line but not alot of proof. There are two sets of Coveys in the Vt. area. One, ones from Canada, Samuel Covey, the other is part of James Covey from Mass. 1639. The Samel Covey that everyone is having trouble with, almost have to come through Hope Covey. I think I have the right brother, don't have info in front of me. It's hard to remember everything. My line comes through Md. 1680s. Some are saying that this line is also part of James Covey of Mass. I have my doubts. The two families do connect in Tn. What all do you have? Are you part of the Canada bunch? Let me know, see what I can do. Wes
I do know that there is a cemetery inscriptions that are duplicated in both NY and VT. This makes me feel that there might be a link. Many New Yorkers moved to Canada early on. Jane Stickle Crosier

Finding amazing people and stories on my way, so it's becoming my main hobby. I seem to be the dissenter. Others think there are 2 Covey lines but with the borders of Vermont, NY, etc. and Quebec moving around all the time, I think it's very likely that we're all one. I did find a Covey that said he was a freeman so that might stop the whole thought process. I'm on a home page by Edward Thompson. Our line is Samuel and Hester (Donaldson). Gail
