    3. On January 7th Ancestry/Rootsweb announced that beginning March 2nd, 2020, they will discontinue their Mail Lists functionality.  Upon receiving this notice Paul L. LeBlanc immediately began searching for another website that could accommodate the mailing list format he uses on Rootsweb.  After much research, he determined Google Groups was the best option.  So he has created two new public Google groups: “Our Acadian Roots” and “Our Louisiana Roots”, which between them will consolidate 77 Acadian and Cajun, 10 uniquely Louisiana, many French surname, and 32 Louisiana Parish Lists.  The new consolidated Genealogy research/discussion groups will focus not only on Acadian and Louisiana ancestors, but also on "All Early French in North America". Come visit the groups' new websites and take a look at the new format: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ouracadianroots or https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ourlouisianaroots If you would then like join either or both of them, just click "Join group to post" located at the top left of the page. If any questions or problem joining contact Paul at pleblan@aim.com If you would like to create your own "OUR ______ ROOTS" Google Group for your family or Parish/County, contact me at pleblan@aim.com .  I may have some ideas to help you get started.  In addition, we may be able to add your new group to our new and expanding research family. For more information, Paul L LeBlanc at pleblan@aim.com

Author: Yakumo1107 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coutu/151.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: After searching the records I did find a burial for an Antoine Cottu, which I will attach. Several websites claim Antoine and Marguerite had another son named Nicolas, born in 1668. He married Anne Charpentier in 1698 but I found the record and I am having a hard time reading the names. It appears that an Antoine Cottu was at his wedding. At least I assume those letters spell Antoine. Nicolas passed away in 1744 so I'm including his burial notice as well as when 'might' be Marguerite Pattou's. Some websites claimed she passed away 4 October 1674 at the age of 42 so I saved the record for a Marguerite who passed away on that date but her surname looks more like "Latour" than Cottu or Coutu to me. They are from Orviller-Sorel. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Yakumo1107 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coutu/151.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I find all sorts of wild speculation about Antoine's lineage but have no luck in proving any of it. The one certain piece is Francois Cottu married Jeanne Verdan in 1682. The record says he came from the parish of St Clou in the Diocese of Amiens. I have no luck in finding any parish by this name. He is possibly from Corbie, further to the east. Still there are no records. The wild theories on the internet say Antoine's parents are Jean I Cottu and Catherine De Fayolle. They claim Jean Cottu was born 21 July 1584 in Soissons, France. Soissons is an old town from what I can gather from searching the internet. While many website and authors claim this as fact, I have yet to find any documentation. If someone could prove any of this I would greatly appreciate it. Some websites say Antoine died 5 September 1699 somewhere in Oise, France. Finding this might shed some light on the matter. With the amount of information at our fingertips, I hope someone can at provide information for a more directed search. Sincerely, Jesse Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: drcoutu63 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coutu/189.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have to agree renewing their vows really didn't make sense. I asked someone else about it and this is the best possibility that we can think of. This second marriage may have actually been a "rehabilitation" because, in the eyes of the Church, the first marriage was not valid. It appears, from what information you have provided, that they weren't granted dispensation for the 3rd degree of consanguinity in the first marriage. This relationship may have come to the attention of the priest 14 years later and the marriage deemed invalid, and therefore needing to be reinstated. In that first marriage, the priest most likely wasn't aware that there was a blood relationship between the bride and groom. That is the only reason we can think of for there not being any mention of dispensation in that record. As for the difference in the mother's name. It really doesn't surprise me. We can assume that the priest wrote down the wrong name. As for the common ancestor. I did find Coutu, Eneau and Dubord on both sides of the families. The common ancestor goes back to the great grandparents or gg-grandparents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: chagae1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coutu/189.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, It was unusual to renew the marriage vows in that period. However, in the 1841 marriage record, it is said that Joseph Champagne and Rose Coutu obtained a special exemption "une dispense du 3e degre" as they were cousins (3rd degree consanguinity). This fact was not mentioned in the 1st marriage record (1827). How come, this exemption was not mentioned in their 1st mariage, as it is important BEFORE they have children, not after? Who is the common ascendant ancestor responsible for this 3rd degree consanguinity? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
