Hi Everyone: I, too, am glad we now have a source to share Courtney information. I am researching John Ellis Courtney. I have been unable to go back further than 1821 in Marion Dist. S.C. His Confederate record states this is his place of birth. His son, Hugh Ellis, was my grandfather. He was born in 1843 in Mississippi but I do not know where in Mississippi. John married Sophorina Farrell in Monroe County, Alabama in 1849 and the family lived in Wilcox County, Alabama in 1850. John and Hugh were Confederate volunteers. John died in a hospital near Dalton, Georgia of disease March 1864. Hugh lived to be 96 and died in Montgomery, Alabama in 1939.
