    1. [COUNTYCORK] Surname Cahalane? in Skibbereen 1910
    2. Sue Richart
    3. Is anyone familiar with the surname Cahalane in the Skibbereen area? I have finally found my grandmother's arrival into Boston. YES!!!! On the 5 May 1910 passenger manifest for Mary Beatts, age 24, she lists a cousin Hannah Cahalane (could be Os instead of As) as her relative back in Skibbereen. I'm not familiar with that surname. I'm going to start looking through the 1911 Skibbereen census pages tomorrow and wonder if someone might have suggestions for other versions of the surname I should be looking for. As an update on my search for Mary Bates, the Mrs. Minehane she lists as her Aunt and sponsor has a maiden name of Mary Murphy. In 1910, Mrs. Minehane has actually remarried after the death of James Minehane to a Cornelius Harrington. Right now, it is looking like Mary Bates' mother is either a Margaret Murphy (if she is the sister of Mary Murphy) or Margaret McCarthy (if she is the sister of the bachelor McCarthy brothers). Rather odd for my Irish ancestors, Mary Bates is quite consistent on her age, so she was born in either 1885 or 1886. I have ordered the 1901 Skibbereen census microfilms and maybe can find Mary Bates hiding in them as a domestic in one of the households. Thanks. Sue Richart
