Many thanks, Dave, I'm sure that some of the Richard and Garrett Barrys(which appear strong family names) and maybe even the Thomases (of the Barrys) could be mine and but I can't yet make the definitive link. Only have David and Garrett as forenames in McCarthys - but have much to learn. I will keep your data and apply it hopefully when I have progressed further. Below is a summary: BARRY/McCARTHY - MIDLETON, CORK My gx2 grandfather was a shoemaker, Patrick Barry b.1803, living and working at 51 Main St Midleton in the 1840s and 1850s. My 2xgreat grandmother was Catherine (Kate) McCarthy b.1818 of Churchtown, Cloyne, parents - John McCarthy & Elizabeth Barry. Kate at age 15 married Patrick Barry b.1803 of Midleton in 1833 in Churchtown, Cloyne Parish. Kate's parents were John McCarthy & Elizabeth Barry. Kate had older sister Johanna b.1808 (living with Kate at 51 Main St in 1841 parish census), brothers David b.1810 and Garrett b. 1812. Kate & Patrick had nine sons and three daughters - Garrett b.1854, the sixth son, was my g/grandfather He was a telegraphist and migrated to Australia in 1870s. An older brother was Patrick David Barry aka Patrick McCarthy Barry, b.1852 d.1925, aged 73, buried Holy Rosary Church, had continued to operate his father's shoemaker's shop at 51 Main St. He married a Johannah (?McCarthy)who died 1908 aged 57. He then married a May Esther ? who on his death married a Thomas Geaney. May Geaney ran the shoemaking business until her death in 1965 when the business was inherited by her niece who lived in Cork City. Although there were seven sons and three daughters I have never been able to contact any descendants of Kate McCarthy and Patrick Barry. The children were: Mary Ann b.1833 Richard 1835 William 1839 Elizabeth 1842 John 1844 Patrick 1846 Catherine 1849 Patrick David 1852 Garrett 1854 Justin Robert 1856 James Joseph 1859 Robert Henry 1852 Thanks, Don ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 3:35 AM Subject: Re: [COUNTYCORK] Midleton: Barry, McCarthy; Churchtown: McCarthy;Bantry: Cri... > Hi Don, For Midleton Parish, Cloyne Diocese, Cork > > 1766 Religious Census > (Catholic) > BARRY John, David, James, Maurice, Thomas, James, James, Thomas, > Maurice, > Garret, Thomas, Richard, Garret, Richard and Richard > > MCCARTHY Maurice, Daniel and George > > 1833 Tithe Applotment > > Castleredmond, McCarthy, John, 30acres, 50ac & 43ac > > > Ballincurra, Barry, Robert 157acres > " Widow 21 ac > > McCarthy, Dr. Denis 64ac > > Broomfield, McCarthy Patrick 17ac > > Barry, Michael, 20ac & 4ac > " Edmond 6ac > > Knocksturkin McCarthy, Denis 20ac & 10ac > " John 20ac & 10ac > > > Hope this helps your search?
