General Patrick RONAYNE Cleburne during American Civil War See website > www.radleysofcork.bigpondhosting.com > Lorraine > Yes. If you're interested in the Ronaynes I will be happy to e-mail you one or both of Frederick W. Knight, /Notes on the Family of Ronayne or Ronan of Counties Cork and Waterford/ that appeared in the /Journal/ of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society 1916 and 1917. Also, a personal history of Edmond Ronayne, /Ronayne's Reminiscences: A History of His Life and Renunciation of Romanism and Freemasonry/ (Chicago: Free Methodist Publishing House, 1899). The /Notes/ contain nothing to offend anyone, /Reminiscences/, on the other hand contains a great deal to offend almost everyone; however, Edmond was born in 1832, lived in Killeagh during the famine (his entire family died around him), he survived "the fever" that killed so many, went on to get an education, founded schools in Ireland, then in Quebec and finally in Chicago (he was burned out by the Chicago fire). It's an interesting tale if you can skip around or just ignore the "...renunciation of Romanism and Freemasonry..." parts. Note that both are large PDF files (> 1M). If you're interested in Cleburne, I can highly recommend Mauriel Phillips Joslyn, /A Meteor Shining Brightly: Essays on Maj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne/ (Milledgeville, Georgia: Terrell House Publishing, 1999) ISBN 0-9662903-0-5. Also Craig L. Symonds /Stonewall of the West: Patrick Cleburne & the Civil War/ (Lawrence, Kansas: University Press of Kansas, 1997) ISBN 0-7006-0/20-6.
