John Stout in 1871 and 1881 census was my great-great-great-grandfather. He was one of the early pioneers farmers in Boyne, (just south of Milton, ON) in Halton County, and was married to Grace Sheridan who I believe was from County Down in Ireland. Still trying to find their marriage record in the early Ontario record. Probably would have been from 1835 or 1836 as their first born was 1836. I am surprised that you did not find John Stout in the 1852 census. He should be there although over the years ... like 1901 the Stout name was mistranscribed as Stoat and has sometimes also been transcribed as Stoutt. You would not be related to any Haggertys from Stirling, ON, would you? Dunmanaway, County Cork was recorded as his place of birth in his burial record at Bowes Cemetery, on Hwy 25 South of Milton. I do have several records for Stouts in Drimoleague parish, starting in 1812. I do not find any Stouts in Halton in 1852, but do see a John Stout age 64 in Trafalgar in the 1871 census. I also see that he died in 1883 and there is an age discrepancy--said to be 84 at time of death. Too bad he wasn't living in 1901 as that would give his year of immigration.
