While the Cork Examiner was published in Cork City it reported on events throughout Munster and beyond. The listing of a name in the Irish Death Notice Index as being from the Cork Examiner, does not mean that it was inserted by a family member. In fact, it may not even be an obituary or death notice as we think of today. My criteria for compiling the Irish Death Notice Index was any death mentioned in an Irish newspaper, or any death of an Irish-born person in any paper anywhere. In addition to the paid death notices and obituaries of prominent persons, there are also many listings of individuals who came to their end in some way that warranted mention in the press, say by accident, execution, suicide or shipwreck. While the two Macklins in the index appear to have died in Dublin, there may be some Cork connection mentioned in the text.
