Hi John Anything is possible and I knew that asking the question was going to be a long-shot! I get really frustrated that marriage certificates only include the father's name. What about the mother?? I have no idea who William's mother was and until such time as I find that out (which, frankly, I doubt I ever will), I won't know if either of the gents you've listed is my ancestor. William and Mary Ann's (whose mother was named Sarah) first daughter was named Ellen, so I don't know if that is clue. Many thanks Jo -----Original Message----- From: john tyner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 5:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COUNTYCORK] NEWMANS believed to be from Co Cork hi jo, i have found a william newman born abt 1862 ireland and his mother was elizabeth mcmanus and father john newman. there is also another william newman born 21 nov 1865 in skull dispensary co. cork father john newman and mother mary griffin. but i am thinking he moved to canada. hope that helps john > Family history has it that my great grandfather, > William Newman, was from > somewhere in Co Cork. > > Apart from knowing that his father’s name was John > Newman (who was a general > labourer) and that he was born some time around 1863 > (+/- a few years), we > know nothing about him before his marriage to Mary > Ann Quinn on 21st May > 1887 in South Stoneham, Hampshire, UK. > > William Newman died age 57 at 24 Back Station Road, > Hebburn-on-Tyne, Co > Durham, UK.
