Patty, have you seen the book on the Cork Beamish families? Mu ggg grandmother was Elizabeth Beamish--she married William Haggertie in Drimoleague in 1803. Their marriage is in that book, but her parents have not been identified. Eliz. died sometime between 1819 when her last child was born and 1823 when Wm and 4 children emigrated to Ontario. Our family legend is that her brother, "Captain Thomas Beamish" came across on the same ship as William. My records are in the worldconnect database. Elizabeth is at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sharonmh&id=I19 Would welcome further contact. Hi Sharon Are you referring to the Beamish Book by CTM Beamish or another one? I have a copy of CTM's book, but can find no reference to my George or his parents. Originally we thought George may be a child of Rebecca and Francis Beamish, who settled in the Etobicke area (west of Toronto) but it has been difficult to prove. Rebecca is listed with George on the 1851 census as 'mother' but it's a bit hard to figure since she supposedly was 90 and he was 33. Of course we know that ages on census records can be suspect without other confirming documentation. We have often wondered if possibly Rebecca was his grandmother. Our best guess is that this Beamish line arrived in Ontario in 1831 which is when they received assistance. They appear on the Toronto Sick and Destitute lists (transcribed by Toronto Branch OGS) at varying times from July to December of 1831. We also supect that George, Francis, Thomas and John, who were living (at times together) together in Toronto in the 1830s and 40s, were siblings. Since they all named their kids George, and francis, it has been a resl challenge to sort them out.
