    1. [CO CORK] Julia Ann Mahoney's mother

    3. Hi all, especially Mary Mizzi, My gggf James Mahony was married Feb. 1837 to Catherine Herlehy in Inchigeelagh Co. Cork, later known as Iveleary. They had 3 sons and 3 daus. bapt. there too, 1837 to 1850. In order, Cornelius, Mary, John, Hannah, Norry, & Timothy. After 1850, we know a bit about the 2 oldest sons, who emigrated to the US. But that was much later, 1880's, after they themselves married and had children. Just don't know whether their father James or any of their siblings stayed in Ireland, or emigrated anywhere, or even who the other 4 married. Only 6 seemed too few children to us. More after 1850 would quite likely be in Casey Vols. 7 & 11. So we think Cath./Kate may have died young, and James may have remarried, in Inchigeelagh, or elsewhere... & had more children. If so, Mary Mizzi's ancestor Julia Ann could be our James' daughter! So, Mary, do you know Julia Ann's mother's name, or the names of any siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles? Who were the witnesses at her 1888 wedding to Thomas HOOLEY? Could you please tell us list members anything at all about any occupations, other locations, time spans, family stories? Almost anything may "click" with what we know about ours, or things known about another James Mahoney's descendants! We have names of our James' mar & bapt witnesses, plus townland locations within Inchigeelagh, which we'd like to compare... Also, James doesn't seem to be the most common Mahon(e)y name, so that should help! I am descended from a James Mahoney of Ireland. His daughter, Julia Ann, who was born around 1867, (aged 21 when she married) also born in Ireland, married my grandfather, Thomas HOOLEY, in Cardiff, Wales in 1888. I have their history down to my own family but cannot find where James came from to get a certificate. James was deceased at the time of Julias wedding in 1888. Are there any connections to your family? Kind regards, Mary

    3. Hi Barb, Just looked at Thomas Hooley and Julia Ann Mahoney marriage certificate. This is how it reads. 1888 Marriage solemnized at St. Peters in the district of Cardiff in the counties of Glamorgan and Monmouth. No When married Name & surname age condition Rank or Profession residence Fathers name & Rank or Profession 59 7th January 1888 Thomas Hooley 25 Bachelor Labourer 38 Cairns St Thomas Hooley Labourer Cathays Julia Ann Mahoney 21 ter ------ 8 The Walk, James Mahoney Labourer Cardiff (deceeased) Married at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church Cardiff. In the presence of Lawrence Joyce and Elizabeth Hooley. Elizabeth Hooley was the sister of Thomas. This is all I know about my grandmother Julia Ann, She died in 1903 in tragic circumstances. They had several chldren Ellen b.1889,; James 1900 c. died; Thomas Patrick b 1894 (my father); Timothy b.1899 and Catherine b.1900 and died 1901. There was a Julia Ann Mahoney I started looking at who was a twin but born in Wales and she was from a big family. Her mother was Margaret and her father was James. He died in a workhouse but not sure when. and could not find Margaret and the family after this. My Julia Ann was born in Ireland and do not know her mothers name unfortunately. That is as much as I know. If Julia Ann is connected to your family, I would love to hear from you with any details of her family.
