Most sources say Minnie is a pet name coined from Wilhelmina although one or two web sites do suggest it could be a pet name for Mary. If you know of some examples, especially any documented sources, I would be very interested to hear of them. -- Best wishes Ray ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net Hints for Scotland's People at http://bit.ly/WIAN-SCP **********************************************************
Most of the HUNDREDS of Marys (well, that's how it feels when you get back another level and there's yet another Mary!) in my ancestery were called Minnie. Or at least, all my Minnies have turned out to be Marys on paper. In Ireland especially, with mother & daughter (& in one case) & grandmother all living in the same house and all called Mary, they had to have pet names to distinguish between all the Marys.
