    3. Hi listers, I have come across a copy of a ship's log for some of my CHURCH ancestors. For one entry it looks like Ballynamoney and the other entry it looks like Ballinamoney. Seaching on the net I also find Ballymoney. Are they the same place? And is this a parish or a town? Cheers Robyn (in Sydney)

    3. Ballymoney civil parish is located a few miles west of the town of Bandon. If you look at the map at: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sharonmh/Haggertie/images/KilmeenAreaMap86.jpg The Bandon river crosses the area of the map near the top. In the extreme upper right is the townland of Knockaneady and there is a cross on the map which marks the location of the old protestant Ballymoney parish church (the blue grid lines are 2 km apart). The church has been closed for some time, and the area is now part of the Kinneigh Union of parishes. I'm afraid I don't know the status of the RC churches in the area. The nearest village is Ballineen, a km northof the church (the first 4 letters of the name are just visible at the extreme upper corner). My ancestors served as parish clerks in the area for over 100 years.
