Hello I received some information from Mallow Heritage regarding a name that seems confusing. On my great great grandmother's marraige record her first name was Johanna and on her children's baptisms it listed her name as Hanora and one was Amy. Has anyone seen these names interchangeable? Joan
Hi Joan, The practice was and is still very common. For instance my own Mother was a Johanna, but she was variously known as Joan, Joanie, Hanna etc.Mind you nowadays the proper given name is used in all official documents, but not so in the past.
